At The Gates will be officially released for PC (Windows, Mac, and Linux) in Q1 2017, and iPad shortly thereafter.

So it's just a matter of time. Within a few days over two months it should be released.
 
Yeah, so I'll join the "near-ish future space game" bandwagon. This is partially because I liked the ambiance of Distant World's low-tech start, and would kinda like a game that fleshes out the concept. So:
  • start with newtonian (but hilariously efficient, think torch drives and Expanse, to make the thing viable — basically things start "20 years after magical reactor tech shows up") flight, moving slowly towards non-newtonian, ending with warp drives and merge with the obvious game.
  • possibly planetary politics, but a single state that inevitably splinters as it expands could be okay too. Though having 4k provinces per planet/moon might be a bit painful for most computers. Maybe just include lots and lots of solar system bodies to spread over.
  • angry labour in the belts! Postman magic shipping helium from Jupiter! Aztec invasion from Proxima Centauri!
  • maybe first contact? Possibly an incompetent invasion attempt a'la XCOM, and dealing with the cultural aftershock.

A game that encompasses all of human history. Going all the way back to the dawn of the first cultures and religions, to the modern era or beyond. With an expanded RNW mechanic, to cover the entire world. Players could play out the history of earth, or randomize the entire world, and play out something that borders on fantasy.

I know this is pretty much the Civilization games, but with how much detail that goes into the Paradox Grand Strategy games, I'd much rather play out the entire life of a nation, from it's birth, to it's rise to greatness, to it's inevitable fall, in a Paradox game, then in a Civilization game.
 
Modern-day/near future game, focusing on economics, where you play as a multinational corporation. Alternatively, a game about managing a trade company from the age of sail or company town in turn-of-the-century America.

I can think of a few:

1. Cold War. Jesus Christ, how do we not have this already?
2. The Near Future ideas from the earlier poster sounded amazing tbh. 2020-2200
3. Reverse Stellaris. Play an Alien species from primitive times to the space age. Colonize a randomized world. Option to play as humans.
4. Modern Era done well. Probably best to merge this with #2
5. Something to take the timeline even past Stellaris, where you play as some sort of posthuman or God like creature

I want to say "Fantasy Europa Universalis", but that would probably require a generic fantasy world and honestly that sounds underwhelming.

A hex-based or free-movement turn-based contemporaneous wargame with immense moddability. Something like a mix between Ironbow II and Field of Glory. Such a system could be integrated into any of the existing flagship titles to introduce a strategic element without needing Total War levels of development.

The idea is wonderful. Think of Caveman to Cosmos, but paradox grand strategy. HOI4 researching, political parties and stuff come in later. Religion founding mechanics, culture making, easy portrait makers, and easy moddability. Less resource intensive on ram, late game is still fast, but ck2 roleplay mechanics.
 
  • Official WW1 mod/expansion for HoI4
  • Far East/China oriented game (not sure on timeline, but it'd be more fun if Japan, Korea, and others would be interesting & playable entities)
  • A Cold War game: although I'm probably of a totally different mind than most - I don't want this to actually focus on war, but on competing economies. So far more Victoria 2 than HoI.
Really I'll try anything Paradox puts out though.
 
The one I would like to see the most is a game set at, literally, the dawn of civilization. That is, one starting about 4-3000 B.C. in the Fertile Crescent-Nile region, with the foundation of the first cities of Sumeria, and tracing the development of city-states, kingdoms, and empires over the next few thousand years up to either the Bronze Age collapse in 1200 B.C. or the Persian conquest of the region (aside from Greece) around 500 B.C.

It seems like it would be a very interesting setting for a game, given not only that the period saw the birth of things like writing, bureaucracy, and professional armies that still shape our world today, but also that it saw the birth of the first empires and the first attempts at world conquest, culminating of course in Cyrus. There's also plenty of allohistorical fun to be had in things like prolonging the lifetime of long-dead cultures like the Hittites or Sumerians, or in raising later cultures to prominence much earlier than they actually did. I know other people have also suggested this, but I wanted to throw my hat in the ring for it as well.
 
Anything before Rome's conquest of Italy. With a huge map.
 
I agree. Once Rome takes hold of big chunks of Italy you have the problems of the previous games, with Rome becoming all powerful. The latest I would start would be around 500BC when the Greeks & Persians were all powerful.

The big problem with Rome is after the Second Punic War, before that they were powerful but had countries like Carthage or Macedonia to compete with them. Afterwards they started to reign pretty much unchecked with only the Parthians and later Sassanids being able to compete with them.

So basically The Expanse in grand strategy format, which I'm 100% down with.
