So I've managed to modify exising building by
  • Cloning from template
  • Setting same name as existing building
That cause it to work, but show as duplicate. Then I set menu category to "Hidden" and it seems to work

But surely there is a better way. Is there an option somewhere or a piece of Lua code to replace existing building ?

I too clone from a template, but wherever, say, "Fusion Reactor" appears (in the boxes near the top of the list), I just amend to "New Fusion Reactor" (including descriptions). The don't forget to save! That has worked for me - mind you it took me the past seven hours to get things 95% right. :)
