I was expecting AoD to be extremely MOD-compatible, and therefore make use of the best that there is of HOI2: its mods.

So far, I only see new mods popping up, but where are the well established HOI2 mods?

It seems that the mod-compatibility was a myth, that it is not so straightforward. I must confess am a bit disappointed.

Yes, the compatibility issue proved to be much serious than most of us thought. It seems that major HoI2 mods are not easily converted into AoD environment.

Don't worry. Some mods are going to be adapted and many new has already started to pop up around here - new sprites, new map and event packs are sure to come!

For now, I play with SKIF icons, BeBros sprites for HoI2 and Tech team pack for AoD.

There where a lot of mods for DD only, and since AoD is based on Arma, it#s no wonder a lot of mod do not work. But I think the big ones will be out soon.

In other cases there are licensing issues. For example, some mod developers decided to refuse permission to allow their material to be used on the AOD platform. AOD is not a Paradox product per se, but one produced by a private team of developers acting under license from Paradox. So anyone who is upset over not being cut in on the profits might choose not to make his material available. Hopefully that is a minority of developers, though. Most of us are not acting for personal profit but to promote the enjoyment of the game. Frankly I'm happy that a private team has done what Paradox has been unable or unwilling to do to improve HOI2.

I can understand that. The AOD team could offer some modders a nice compensation for free access to their material though, if it is worth it.

So which are these mods that will not be compatible and made for AOD?

The only one I know of as far as licensing is concerned is New Nations, but there may be others. That affects my New Revolters mod, since some material was from New Nations--therefore authorized only for HOI2. I'm therefore working on an updated version of New Revolters for AOD to resolve the licensing issue by not including anything form New Nations except what the developer allowed me to use. There is another issue--a technical one. AoD is VERY picky about properly formatted leaders files. If there is either junk information in the file, or a leader ID is duplicated, AoD unexpectedly crashes. The best way to check for duplicated leader IDs in a long file is to use Excel. HOI2 simply refused to load the second instance, but AoD crashes.
