You can find it just in the same screen where you downloaded AoD from - it should be on the right part of the screen (the options should be, in order: Download - Serial - Patches - Manual).

I just downloaded AoD from GamersGate and it was the 1.02 version from a couple years ago! Does anyone know where I can download the 1.07 patch?

Hi. I having problem with the 1.07 patch in my Gamer'sGate account and even running as admin only fixes it until I need to hit ctrl/esc cause I got to do something. Then returning to game it picks up enough new problems to need a save file, close, and restart saved file again as admin. This actually occurs a lot if I doing screen shots as I play and need to access Paint.

QUESTION 1: I'm OK with the tedium of doing that, but worried how much penalty you will ding me for ever reload once I start playing your THIRD RIECH MOD, which is my aim. It seems v1.07 does not penalize for reloading anymore. At least nobody is cancelling any trades when I do reload. So, can you spill the beans and foretell if I can reload your MOD without getting thrown in the brig, or whatever surprises your fantastically difficult THIRD RIECH has waiting for me?

My AoD runs just fine patched to 1.06. Must I really have 1.07 to add your MOD? Sorry, I guess that's a pretty stupid question, since you clarify that is the requirement, So don't even answer it. I'm just desperate!

The other solution is dowloading v1.07 from http://www.bl-logic.dk/Games/AOD/Patches/107.rar and installing manually but I never unpacked or over wrote game files.

I am capable IF I am given proper complete instructions, which are not written in short cut. I need bread crumb instructions. Would you be willing to do that, please? I know how to enter the game files and paste in new text as needed. I am familiar with the code there as regards its complexity, and am a careful worker because I regularly edit my website in HTML code. But I don't know what "unpack" is - unless it just means "unzip". And I have never modded game files before except for the instruction Blue Emu once gave me to fix the supply route from Japan to Korea. I understand Checksum is those 4 letters displayed when game opens, but I never changed checksum, or really understand the concept - although I can substitute letters (if that is how it is done) if told what file to do it. Or does checksum happen automatically, and if not the right letters appear it is a "check" that game has error?

Most respectfully.

Thank you.

Checksum happens automatically. It helps to distinguish different versions.
Unpack means unzip. Unzip is a more spefic terms as it refers to *.zip, but there are much more formats such as *.rar.
You donnot want to add a patch to a mod, the order must always be to install the game first, then the patch and the mod at last. Change the order and you cause problems for "sure".

Installing 107 is easy. You need to download 107.rar to a folder of your choice. Then unpack that file into a folder of your choice. Then move every file from this folder into your AoD folder. Your goal is to overwrite the old files with the new ones from the patch.

I began by un-installing my corrupted AoDv1.07 using un-install in Program Files, next deleted all AoD files in My Documents/AoD folder, and finally did Disk Clean-up of C:// to remove everything in the Downloads display.

Then I downloaded v.102 from GamersGate to my empty AoD Folder in My Documents. While it is hard to do that wrong, two “red herrings” leave me wondering about continuing without first getting confirmation that all is OK so far:

1) I got the normal Windows 7 warning, “This file is not commonly downloaded, could harm your computer, blah, blah.” The option I used was “Save As”; and “Save as type: All Files” to my AoD folder. I did not use the other option of “save as type: Application”. Next it gave prompt to cancel or “Run anyway”. I thought I was not “running” the file at this point – only downloading it, so that terminology threw me at first. But hitting “run anyway” a 416.67 MB file began downloading to my AoD folder.

2) At this point appears the second red herring. There are two files.
a) GamersGate temporary files – 397MB
b) The B&W icon – 285KB
I am unsure which of those two files I should be touching to do next step.

I have already downloaded 107.rar from Paradox. Now I need to unpack it. So, I created new folder inside my AoD folder - which was wrong location I now realize. So I have moved the downloaded 107.rar file and folder to be used during unpacking to higher level in My Documents.

But trying to OPENING 107.rar, Windows cannot read this file… so now I’m at FILE ASSOCIATIONS where I must choose from one of five available softwares:
• WinZip RAR Compressed Archive File
• WinAce
• RARLAB WinRAR
• BitZipper
• StuffIt Expander

Which one, PLEASE?

* The order must always be to install the game first, then the patch and the mod at last. *

So, next is install AoD v1.02

HOW? By double clicking the B&W icon in My Documents/ AoD folder. THat leads to "do you want this program to makes changes". Of course "YES". So, that gets v1.02 installed (and I can play again!!!).

Next job, get the v1.07 unpacked after picking correct software.

* Then move every file from this folder into your AoD folder. Your goal is to overwrite the old files with the new ones from the patch. *

Once unpacked, I realize I can see and copy the files. BUT THE LAST PART - move the rar files where into my AoD folder? Just paste them beside the temp folder and B&W icon already inside my AoD folder? Will that automatically achieve the goal, or do I need to copy the rar files correctly into either the temp files or the B&W icon file?

Thanks immensely for helping a “game installer Nob”.

Ordinarily I would just buy AoD, with v1.07 installed available from PC GameStore, but since they have not replied if that has the correct checksum, I don’t know. If I succeed with this .rar unpacking at least I know I can move on to installing THIRD REICH MOD.

DAMN! I just peeked inside the temporary folder, to see next folder (a number) and peaking inside that got to file that reads "launch". Continuing my habit of right clicking - it nearly stalled - long time for hour-glass until I got exited. Hope that did not damage anything.

OK, so it is the B&W icon - right click it - "run as administrator", and see what happens. Why don't they just call that icon "Installer" and there would not be any doubt (how it used to be in Windows XP).

Please advise if you think I should start over by deleting all and doing download again. Next time I will not peek at the launch file. Unfortunately, this happens when presented with choices but have zero experience installig programs other than following the computer's quick normal installation messages.

Once downloading is completed the gamersgate downloader starts the installation of AoD. Vista and 7 are a bit different from XP, the installer reads the complete sofware build first, then the installation starts. After installing please choose the option to keep temporary files (the "launch" file) so you don't need to download it again for another reinstall. (The gamersgate downloader/installer should be named "Download Arsenal of Democracy- A Hearts of Iron Game.exe")

Gamersgate offers the 1.07 patch as installer so why do you fiddle with a .rar file you can't handle properly (.rar is a winrar compression filetype)?

I had Gamer’sGate v1.07 installed but major problem was it would not save even though I successfully installed v1.04 first. So, with v1.07, I went to RUN as ADMIN and can now save but new problems appeared (I can promote my leaders with no loss of skill, battle notifiers are switched for air and sea battles, Spanish Civil War has seen not a single action except one aerial combat for entire last 12 months after the intensive fighting of first 6 months just ended… and what other “bugs” might I discover later?.

I was very happy playing V1.04 years ago, have picked up the game again but am sick of the old map and want to do a THIRD REICH MOD ARR.

It is hard to go wrong using Gamer’sGate installer, I easily installed AoDv1.04, and I have read reports that v1.07 is so buggy it is not worth playing past 1.04 (which I never had any complaints with).

I was told that it would be much better to install AoD1.02 with v1.07 patch added later by doing installation outside of program files, and I am doing that. Pang Bingxum was most helpful giving clear instructions and, had he known how new I am to this game installation thing, he probably would have dropped a few more bread crumbs.

Anyway, with your reply I can now install my v.102. And then get the unpack software and add v1.07. Hopefully it will give me a properly working game.

The point is, while I may be new at game installation, I do read html code, can follow instructions and learn – and figure I must handle the v107.rar unpacking as the experience and knowledge so gained will serve me well when I try to add Gringoesteban’s MOD.

If I am wrong I can try buying AoD with v1.07 already installed from from PCGameStore if that has the right checksum. And if all fails, I can just buy and install Iron Cross and do that AAR.

But, it seems like for ANY HoI game, the most popular recommendation seems to be “install outside of program files”. So I should do it. It really only needs precise and complete answers to questions asked. Thanks for pointing out which unpack software to use. And, yes, I did keep the temp file. You know, once one knows what the ‘launch’ file is and which is the installer, it really is very easy. But newbies don’t know a launch file from an .exe file if their first time. I guess I should have let the GamersGate icon be my clue.

So, according to you, I should download the WinZip RAR Compressed Archive File software, correct? I was unsure because I remember some post about StuffIt Expander, but that post might have been saying don’t use that!

Interesting. I got AoDv1.02 installed “outside of programs”. I note a couple things:

1) Going program files there is an extra file called AoD settings file. Says to register the game but as I see the AoD icon in Paradox/My Games will skip that until somebody advises differently.

2) Then opening the game I see it already has 2 saved games:
a) Flag of Germany but file name reads: 1936_01_01 message. That’s strange as that is my style of saving file names but I never played this game before.
b) Flag of USA with file name USA_1936_June_1st

Clicking either one just goes to “click flag to change it”. No problem, I can delete those "saved games" in scenarios/saved games.

Clicking alt/tab works great.

But the earlier uninstall of old game left one folder in Programs 86x which was scenarios/saved games (with only 1 file which was last game I did save playing the old v1.07. Makes sense. So I deleted that manually.

Finally, the icon in START menu looked like a washed out piece of paper, so I deleted that short cut, and in programs created new short cut on task bar quick launch that is the proper HoI icon.

All seems good. Will play it a bit to check for bugs and eventually get around to getting the software downloaded so I can go to PHASE II – unpack the 107.rar

This is most interesting operation – for me anyway. Thanks all for your past help.

You make Windows 7 sound like a nightmare. Using Win XP i never had such problems. Using the CD-Version i bought at a local store i had no problems either.

I guess each one will do. WinRaR is the Program that introduced *.rar. I use none of these, but ZipGenius. It works fine for me. But there is another bunch of programs that can unpack *.rar.

I have Windows 7 and have had no such problem (although I downloaded the game through Steam).
