the biggest thing steel division (and wargame) have in their favour is the camera which is straight up the best camera of all currently available rts.

This, and it hurts to see it not using his full potential in SD 44,instead of big fights we play chess ww2 .If there wasnt Iris Zoom technology i would have probably never played any rts games since i played C&C and CoH back in the days,i always felt claustrophobic playing those games and when i saw Ruse and that you can see apples on the field and zoom completely out pfff, like a dream.Hell i would even buy AoA and give a chance if there was a fully functional iris zoom...

they havent figured out yet that maintaining a roughly equal ammount of units on both sides makes for far more interesting matches than having one side end up with double that after 5 min

They haven't figured out the 3 different attractions of wargame. They went just for the historical memes.

My only complaint is that I wish WG/SD had functionally like Supreme Commander did, along with dual screen support. The way you could zoom in and out as well as have another monitor set up to be your "map" or have it zoomed in on a key area would be insanely useful.

Yeah, I saw this exact excuse in the aftermath of reddit's humiliation in spite of the fact that the redditors claim they trained prior to the match while the 4chans were basically a pick-up group. It's really hilarious how you still use this excuse when that didn't fly even within the Wargame subreddit.

Again, the people who post in the Wargame subreddit largely don't play the game. That's why they lost to a 4chan pick-up group. That's why they instead have so much time to keep posting silly memes.
I wonder where this pretentiousness, unceasing ignorance is coming from. FYI I played for 4chan both times, and many on #ANZ were regulars on /wgg/.

Don't you realise that it's the hugbox mentality that developed into the pubstomp-loving reddit that was annihilated in those games. The "new" reddit may be shit as well, but it's seen some improvement - at least the 10v10'ers were swiftly bullied off.

Memes keep the place alive; their lack killed /wgg/.

And that changes the fact that it's full of people who just complain but clearly never play any actual Wargames, how? You're just being salty because it's yet more proof of how enormously irrelevant the Wargame "community" is.

Indeed, being "usurped" to the point that the community is dominated by people who don't play the game but demand attention and up-votes for posting bad memes is a perfect demonstration of the said community's utter impotence. You can't even properly thank the few people who actually help in the useful subreddits (e.g. bootcamp) without attracting drama from the meme clowns.
Lul, what you're being told is that reddit was usurped by channers, some of which were on the 4chan team during the community 10v10s.

What you call "pretentiousness", is simply you still in denial that your forum is a useless meme cesspool despite being well aware of the fact. That's why you post-rationalize and pretend it "keeps it alive" instead of making it a place full of meme-makers instead of actual Wargame players.

Yeah, lol, memes are basically jokes but completely unfunny and repetitive

Frankly it's not even that - it's just up-vote farming at this point.

But certain people want to pretend it represents "History" or "Player base" which entitles their opinion to higher value; rather than an embarrassing corner of the Internet where they enable emotionally needy people to gain imaginary popularity points.

r/wargame and r/wargamebootcamp are full of people still playing the game.

Ironic re the 10v10, seeing the obnoxiously aggressive 1v1'ers got themselves booted from these forums, for exactly that behaviour. I still get a smile out of that...

I suspect that they transitioned to the reddit...

Lol, you mean the subreddit where you have only one guy who's still making an effort to actually help people who want to try the game?

And that your memers are so insecure and thirsty for up-votes that they complained that one helpful person got voted contributor of the year?

Really, stop pretending that the WG subreddit is anything but a cesspool of memers crying for attention. You can claim all you want that you still totally play and aren't uselessly crying for attention, but in reality there are 11,000 people subscribed to the subreddit compared to 1,000 people who are playing; and I doubt most of those 1,000 players even bother looking at the subreddit anymore. It's simply trash and the quality of the posts coming from the people who claim to hail there reflects it.

Ofc I read his post, he said the dev think this is a role playing game, so it wasn't designed for fun. I pointed out if it was realistic game, it wouldn't be conquest.

If it was a fun game, it wouldn't be about conquest neither, considering the total number of conquest players is about the same number of downvote i get whenever I post.

Honestly, i would like to se more massive battles in the next game. Things like mass assault and big offensives should be more common in this time period.
I understand though that by doing this micromanagement will increase immensely, so more quality of life tools are needed in order to accomplish that, combat group formations for example.
Tank formations are not a thing in this game, because offensives usually consist of a few varied units, giving the sensation of playing a chess game more than participating in massive war. This makes sense in cold war era scenarios with weapon lethality being higher, but in WWII i expected combat to be more "brute".
Basically, Steel division is a good game, but feels like a simplified wargame with WWII skins, but without all those fancy toys we had there.

I feel quite the opposite. The need for combined arms in SD44 is much more than in the Wargame series - the slower game pace takes some getting used to however it is rewarding. With finite resources means you need to manage them more wisely and helps reduce the scope of the fight to something more akin to a company + or a battalion. Having a platoon or two of tanks is possible but you need to miser your early resources. I have enjoyed both games thoroughly and SD44 surprised me with how enjoyable it is despite its stark differences. The games are as similar as they are different. Don't try to play SD44 like WG you will only be dissapointed. Instead revel in the increased demand for combined arms and support assets.

I think if the game had been released in a similar state to where it is now, it could have rivaled CoH2. Unfortunately, the game just wasn't fun to a lot of people when it first hit. A combination of questionable balance in units and divisions coupled with some tech issues (a lot of people had trouble even staying connected for a full game) sort of killed the first impression.

Overall, I think the game is in a really nice place right now. There is a lot of variety in the divisions and the game modeling feels pretty solid. The gameplay is not frustrating like many found it on launch and the first few months. Even the AI is enjoyable for casual players to play against.

I would love for Eugen to revisit the Cold War with this engine using the lessons learned from SD. My understanding from various posts is that this is unlikely, but we can only hope that they continue developing historical conflict RTS titles on this engine.

As a SD 44 and 10v10 fan located in Australia ive found peak times for me are 3am till 11am.

When the Euros then US players start getting it on

Lately at these tines i have seen the highest number of players since release 1000+ with up to 3 10v10 games going.

Yes it has made me an insomniac

And...

Yes you you gota fight for your right to panzer party

At low peak times remember many pple are playing smaller game modes often with buddies in private (unlisted) modes.

So my humble advice izveither get some buddies or sacrifice some sleep for playing peak times

Or play balanced game modes, like 3v3...
