EU III had a lot of map modes, some were very useful while others were barely used.
So I want to start a discussion about the map modes you would like to see in EU IV. :)

In my opinion a smart combined "max supply limit/max attrition/weather" map mode would be nice for warfare. The SOI map mode (If SOI is still a concept) could be combined with the "diplomatical relations" map mode. And for bigger countries the "revolt risk" map mode is still a must have!

The technology, manpower, and economy mapmodes are essential, though I really hope the latter two are made more distinctive color-wise, instead of having every province show up as green after the construction of 1 or 2 buildings. An opinion mapmode is also a must-have.

I think its a little too early to know exactly what map modes would and wouldn't be useful, but just for fun imagine how hilarious it would be if Pdox released EUIV without a political map mode for lulz, then put it in in like 1.1 patch. Watch the forums burn!

A more important question is "what should the mapmodes do and show?" IMO, the mapmodes are pretty poorly executed.

The diplomatic mapmode is vastly less informative than that in EUII, where you could, at a glance, see things like relations and CBs, as well as alliances.

The shipbuilding and recruiting mapmodes show nothing whatsoever, beyond what is yours. (There is no color coding.)

EUII, again, had mapmodes with no units on them, making it possible to click places like Malta. It also showed, in full zoom, which ports were blockaded. Now you have to rely on the "blockade" icon, which is just a bit worse for your own ports, but which tells you nothing of the allies and co-belligerent's status.

There is a lot more we could get from the maps, if they were better designed.

Political map mode. It's what we all use 98% of the time anyway (my condolences to the people who spend so much time making the default geographic map mode). What might be a good idea is to add more political map modes. Like how about a politically based war map mode. Everything is grey except for your allies and enemies who are their normal colours. I would use that a lot more than diplomatic map mode, to be honest.

Another vote for the political map mode. I want to make sure they get the colors right :)

It would be nice if the geographic map mode were a little more useful for determining which country owned whatever territory, because it is the best looking map mode, IMO. Maybe Paradox could apply a unique-color shading effect to each nation's borders, or print a country's label with it's corresponding color, or something.

i believe their should be a core anda diplo mode separate.

Why? a core mapmode would highlight some provinces a certain way, and others a different way. Diplo already does that. There's almost no reason to separate them. Diplo has a colour for Royal Marriage, one for Alliance, one for CB, one for truce (I think) and one for war, along with vassal/PU ones. And they're all colours. Cores are stripes. All they need to do is have tool tips that say "We have the following Casus Bellis/we have a Royal Marriage/We have an alliance" etc.

EDIT: To be honest, I don't need anythin g other than the ones they have in DW 5.1. and if they can't do that many, DW 5.0 is sufficient until they cna add more.

Since a political map mode is nothing short of guaranteed, I won't make that my vote.

What would be great though is the detailed religious map mode from CKII and the cultural map mode from Victoria II: AHD.

Political, trade, geographic and diplomatic are the only essential ones for me.

I use political 99% of the time playing, and the others just to examine things before moving back to political.
