I’m a very trade-centered person in my EU4 runs. This has been an interesting thread :p
Realized I have never played Qing. Decided to give it a shot before booting up Nat China in Waking the Tiger. I’m using PDM, so it’s a lot like Japan, outside of the occasional Russian or British attack.
 
EU3 has the best trade system for modelling the period. The huge gaping flaw in EU4's trade system is that you basically have to blob everywhere to start getting trade. There's no mechanic for a country like say Portugal to get massively rich the way they did off a few trading posts scattered across the globe. Merchant republics kind of have a mechanic for this but its awful, weak, and unavailable to everyone else.

V2 has serious problems for the time period. Complete lack of ability to embargo, no regional markets, same price for all goods everywhere really drag it down. Obviously V2's economy works well but trade and the global market is an afterthought in implementation.
 
None of paradox games does it for me, any of you guys played a game called Pride of Nations from Ageod games ? in my opinion they had the best trading system ever, the system relied on a zone trade node that would allow you to sell surpluses and buy and shortage you have, and to do this you needed an active merchant fleet in the sea node adjacent to the trade node, a trade node would usually cover a relatively large area, like France was covered by two trade nodes one based in the north sea and the other in the Mediterranean.
