I run Stellaris via steam with the DLC Utopia.

I am having a problem to know which version I am running.

e.g. As a test, I just started a new game, apparently on 3.8.2 but the opening page says 3.6.1 (a6c5)

My current game has problems with 3.8. It was started 2 months ago probably on 3.6.1 and then I think it was updated to 3.7 and it was running OK.
But after the update to 3.8 it was broken (there is a separate thread in this forum about this - see Civilian ships)

I go to the Steam page and right click on Stellaris to get properties then betas and it shows Orion version 3.6.1 (this is the page which shows a field for Code which I do not have.)
There is no OK or Agree button so I do not know if my selection has been made.

My game still fails. I suspect it is really running on 3.8.2.

To make sure you are running with the latest version, go to the properties menu for Stellaris. Under "Betas" make sure you select "None". This should put you on the latest version of the game.

The version you are running is right on the main menu screen. Whatever version it is telling you that you are running, that is definitely the version you are running.

Thanks for your input.

I would like very much to believe this. But I am starting to have doubts.

The following has been posted elsewhere but I'll re-post the essence again here

I am beginning to think there is some conflict between the apparent and real version that is running.

Let's summarize. Since 3.8 arrived, I am having a problem with my current game that I started 2 months ago. My civilian ships will not move.

If I try a completely new game the new game works - civilian ships move.

My latest saved game fails on 3.8 and when I try it with 3.6 (confirmed by the Steam launch page) is also fails. (civilian ships do not move along hyperlanes)

My very early saved game (created on 3.6) now fails on 3.6 and 3.8

I am beginning to suspect that the version actually in use is not the one that is reported on the Steam page.

If 3.8 is used regardless of what the Steam launch page says, then the situation is understandable (even if wrong).

Any ideas?

Start a brand new game when the title screen tells you its 3.8. Do you now have a government button on the left? Do you see the leader cap on the status bar at the top? When you open your tech screen, do you see only one leader (the head of research)? Then you are definitely on 3.8, as those are all features in 3.8 that are not in any version prior.

Start a brand new game when the title screen tells you its prior to 3.8. You should NOT see a leader cap, and now when you open the tech screen, you should see that each of the three research areas now has a leader.

That is the definitive way to tell if what version you are seeing on the screen is definitely correct.

My guess is, something in your save file is corrupted or it is simply not compatible with the newer version of the game. Your best bet, sorry to say, is to abandon that game. If everything works right in a new game, this is pointing to an issue with the save file rather than the game itself, since I have not seen anyone else reporting this issue.

Thanks Colonel for your help.

I followed your advice and clearly I am not using 3.8.2.

My original worry "I am having a problem to know which version I am running. " is now resolved.

I still have a problem with my game but we can close this thread.

Thanks again for your help.
