I love that people keep posting the full price of the game + DLC, but I highly doubt most players bought it all at once, meaning that this is a very misleading statistic that doesn't actually conflate with how people really spend money on the games.

I realise that most people wait for sales, which begs the question, why do they keep older games at high prices year round ? The sales outside of sale time must be pretty bad.

I think that more than the price tag, it's the actual discount that matters. Keeping a high base price means you can show a bigger discount which makes you think you're about to do an awesome deal.

thats the reason i dont have ck2, wanted to try it, but not for 100€
I never understood this sentiment. CK2 is about $30 right now on Steam. Sure, if you also want the x-packs, you need to also pay for them, but pretending you have to is black-and-white thinking. Like looking at the McDonald's menu, adding all the items together, and saying "aw, shucks, I'd love to try McDonald's burger, but not at a $200 price tag".

I own only CK2 and Old Gods (and Sword of Islam, though I haven't really gotten into it yet), and I've had countless hours of fun with it.

I get wanting to be able to play the full game (all dlc) but yeah that is a fair point, if you are new to CK and you don't even like the base game, I don't think adding (and paying for) all the DLC will win you over.

I do think that if you do end up liking base CK, adding DLC (especially on sale) is a great idea, and you wont need another game in its category for at least a year :)

Depends. I bought Stellaris, HOI4(including season pass) and EU4 at full price. When it comes to DLC, I'm more likely to pay full price, particularly if it's content I'm interested in. For instance, I haven't purchased the last 5 EU4 DLC(or country packs...whatever) because I'm just not all that interested in the content. I am more interested in I:R now than release but am holding out for a sale. However, I plan on buying the DLC associated with the EU 4 European update and the new HOI4 DLC at full price.

If they announce Vicky 3 at PDXcon I will more than likely pay full price for it...as long as they don't mess it up too bad.

Never done it, because many times they are full of bugs / quite lackluster at launch. I wait and get them on a discount, maybe with a couple DLCs also on sale. Even if Vic3 got released tomorrow, I'll wait a fair bit too.

I buy existing stuff when there's a sale on Steam, because I'm catching up and it's unaffordable for me otherwise. But when they release new content for games I'm already playing and caught up on, I'll buy it at full price when it comes out, like the last several HoI4 expansions, or Ancient Relics for Stellaris.
