Hi all,

What's up with the fact that you cannot save altered game files in their own directory? I'm being forced to save them to documents, and then copy and replace them into the correct places. That's just silly!

Any way to change this?

Sam,

Not quite sure what you mean, but it sounds like a permissions issue. As in your (Windows) user account doesn't have the privileges to write to the game directory. This is generally regarded by security people as a Good Thing, and by most Windows users as a Pain In The Arse.

I'm an XP Luddite so I don't know the details, but I imagine you can give yourself 'root' or 'admin' or 'something' rights to resolve the issue.

I'm already an admin user on my laptop, I can access all other areas, just not this...

Curse you luddites! I work in IT support at my Uni, and the number of people with old, outdated equipment asking for help and then being angry when I can't immediately fix it... You've using Windows 95, for God's sake!

simply use another not UAC protected directory. per default your saves should by located in your documents where you shouldn't have any problem.

No no no, sorry I poorly phrased my query; I'm altering the game files in the Crusader Kings 2 directory, not where my save games are located. I'm altering the actual text files.

This happens to me on some games, though not all, and I haven't tried it on CKII.
For me when I edit a .txt, .config, .xml, etc, it asks me to 'save as' and I can't overwrite the same file, so I just save to desktop, then cut and paste the file from the desktop into the game folder.
After that it seems to let me edit that file and save normally without going through the extra hassle.

Not sure exactly why this happens though.

LOL. A large part of my living involves supporting people with ageing Macintosh computers. Trust me, I can relate...
