I am playing Russia and I noticed that Trubetskoi and Stroganov will pass throgh a province without attacking natives, while Hetman and Mosalski do attack.

Why is this so , and how do I tell which can peacefully pass natives?

There are some provinces where I want to keep a native population so that they add to my population after Colonization.

it depends on the province (natives's agressiveness to be exact). Your troops will not attack by themselves unless you specifically order them to 'attack natives'.

When an army, with conquistador or not enters a province with natives, whichever the province's status (empty, TP, Colony), there is a % chance that the natives will attack the army, based on their aggressiveness.

When an army is stationed in a province with natives, you have the option 'attack natives'. This time it is up to you to attack.
