Didn't rome never invade sweden? why is paradox so hesitant about a roman period game as they've explicitly stated in the past?, not trying to stir trouble just curious because there seems to be interest for the period both on the forums and is well known in mainstream knowledge.

Long ago, Johan was in Rome enjoying a nice slice of pizza in Little Caesars. He had just lost his dog to the fever and despite his parents best efforts, he was inconsolable. Their mascot came over and tried to cheer him up, but ended up sneezing in his pizza instead, ruining his supper.

Johan has hated Rome ever since.

They made a Roman game, EU Rome, and didn't sell well. This may make it less likely for a sequel. But I think you are correct, there is a lot of interest on the forums for a Roman period game. I believe EU Rome didn't sell well because it wasn't a good game, and not because of the time period. If Paradox made a Roman game now with there current level of quality than I'm sure it will sell quite well.

Im speaking from memory but I believe Shams said it sold decently. The real "issue" is the opportunity cost of making that game and the fact that PI doesnt believe their customers want EU Rome over any of the titles theyve been working on (cant say I disagree, as far as the non-localized series go) so they keep putting it down on their idea list.

Crusader Kings and Victoria didnt sell well, which is why Wester was against Victoria II being made, but both sequels made a good profit (Crusader Kings 2 more so, but I believe they were pleased with Victoria II). These days, with PDS's street cred after CK2 and EUIV, plus the distribution model and the relative low budget costs, there's no way in hell a Rome 2 wouldnt turn a profit, but if you ask me wether I believe it could outsell an HOI IV... Yeah, dun think so.

Also well, you cant OP Sweden if Sweden doesnt exist, can you?

EU ROME,didn t sell well because it was...shitty.60% of the map was empty, and you had to colonise it,very few event, very many ahistorical things, altough the mods improved the game,it still was outdated in comprasion with EU III for ex(at that time) wich made EU ROME feel uncomplete

And antique era game would indeed be hard to make, with the current mechanics,I believe that s why they don t want to make a sequell.

But it has so much potential...the birth of civilisations(Babylon,Assyrian Empire),the greek wars, rome, the migrations, the fall of rome...so much potential

I'm sure RTW2's cornered the market too well for Paradox to feel like they can compete with it, at least for the time being... It'd be nice though ^_^

if anyhting itd be smart to release it after rome 2, like they did with sengoku and shogun, people still buzzying on the rome buzz, but bored of bland old boring tw.

I'd much rather they make more expansions for their current games or sequels. I'll be playing Rome Total War 2... not by choice btw, I hate the Roman era, but because I like Medieval Total War and Rome is the most similar. Roman times are stupid.

Would rather see an Ancient World game focused on Greece vs Persia. There are already a fair number of Roman games (including EU Rome if you really want Paradox) much less covering the Ancient period

TW games in the same era hasn't stopped PDS so far...

Sengoku competed with S2TW, guess which game hit a wall.

Let's not pretend that Operation Glory was anything more than what it was - a glorified CKII beta - than a serious competitor to Shogun II.

I'd love to see a game set sometime in the classical era from Paradox, Actually, I would prefer a new game with almost any setting as opposed to yet another HoI.

All I can say is that I'd prefer a new shot at EU:Rome (or a new Roman era game divorced from EU {I don't think EUIV's mechanics would fit the classical age all that well}) to East vs. West. I'm just not a contemporary history kind of guy.
