Extremely weird thing to be bothered about, I know, but seriously it’s bugging me. If you own the Humanoids species pack humans use humanoid ships, but trailers from Apocalypse to Season 9 continue to depict humans using Mammalian ships! What is canon? Are human ships humanoid or mamalian. I want answers PDS Green!

Not sure which trailers you're referring too, since I never had the patience for videos, but Humanoids came out later than the base game. So maybe that's the reason? In later trailers they might just have forgotten the fact that they switched the sets.

It's because humanoid portraits came with their own shipset, and also placed the 'human' portraits in the 'humanoid' portrait category.

Nothing wrong with that on the surface, but I do honestly find it a bit annoying for the CoM, because the more utilitarian ships definitely look better for them IMO. The humanoid ships just look too... Star Treky? I don't know, but I vastly prefer the mammalian shipset for them.

The worst little annoyance is that you can't change it back, or deactivate the humanoid shipset. If you alter the CoM civ and save your changes, it just creates a new custom civ that's identical but uses the mammalian shipset; it doesn't actually change the CoM itself.

You answered the question already:

The trailers cannon have them using the 'old' ship set because that's how the trailers started. the most recent one implies they've switched over to the spiny bioship set. As far as I know, changing ship sets isn't possible. the trailers aren't beholden to the limitations of the games. Also, canon doesn't exactly make sense for a game like stellaris.

I read that as the UNE having allies who use spinovores, not that they adopted them themselves.

did we see the UNE prior to the Apocalypse trailer? I know the CoM appeared in Utopia but I don’t think the UNE made an appearance pre-Humanoids.

Maybe. I can be taken that way as well I guess.

I wish I could find a chronological playlist of trailers and such, just because every new one makes me feel like I'm missing stuff and want to go back and see what I missed or forgot. Plus, they are extremely well made and I would enjoy the processes.

Ah well.

I dunno, maybe to avoid someone complaining about not having access to the ships in a trailer because they need to own a separate DLC for that? Or they just think the old shipset looks better in trailers.

that's because the humanoids pack came like a year or more after the game was released proper, so many of the trailers just plain use the old shipsets by default since humans used to have the mammalian shipsets at first

The humanoids shipset shows up in a lot of trailers though, just never used by humans themselves. I suppose the former point still applies though since humans are a vanilla portrait but the humanoid shipset isn't.

Personally I find that the Mammal shipset fits a bit better anyway. It looks more to me like that's the natural progression from earth infrastructure with its blocky forms, whereas the humanoid ships set seems a bit too "slick alien design" to me.
