When I was playing Crusader Kings 3 about a few months ago, something absolutely horrible happened. I discovered to my great joy during a casual run of Rome that you could, in fact, loot the Pope's hat and make it your own crown. I had it for just that one game and sadly the game updated so the Holy Roman Godking run had to be abandoned in the mid 1200's.

But the knowledge of this crown and the fact that you can acquire it has ruined the experience of this game for me. Look at it. Is it not resplendent? Is it not fetching? Is it not beautiful? How much more resplendent would it look upon YOUR head instead?

I could be playing as some random Han count on the far corners of the map and yet I will still feel it. The call of the Pope crown, drawing my attention to the West.

I must have the Popehat and I must put it on my head. It's a sensation I cannot endure. It's literally a crown on top of another crown. How does it get more crowny than that?

The reason for the Diplomatic Tech Tree's entire existence is to forge a claim on the Popecrown and to put it on my head.

In fact the Pope should just drop dead and give it to me already. This last game I took over his lands, imprisoned him, and publicly executed him for the beauty of the Popehat and yet RNG denied me.

Is there no other sure way to claim this hat than to claim it via forging and beat him in a war? I can hear it calling for me. I must have it. And if there's another sure way of getting it, I need to know.

Thank you in advance fellow Popehat fans.

A few years ago, I was sitting with some friends in teamspeak. We were all immersed in our own games, and conversation had somewhat died down... until my piercing cry of "I stole his hat!" broke the silence, without any context. Easily one of my top 5 CK experiences, would loot again.

Towards your question, whenever I play someone who can raid, I make a point of visiting His Holiness every five years without fail. One might call it an armed pilgrimage, I guess. Even if you're not into artful haberdashery, that's just good business.
Without looking it up, one of the Norse dynasty legacies increases the chance to loot artifacts when sieging/raiding holdings. Landless adventurers can take these without actually being Norse/Asatru iirc.

The only 100% safe way would be to conquer all of Italy with another faith, then befriend the Pope when he is landless, abolish the papacy, invite him to your court, grant him land, and you will be the successor of those lands and the crown if you assassinate him. Secure a betrothal with a younger daughter to prevent him from marrying before the scheme is complete.

Thank you in advance fellow Popehat fans.
Dearest @Revshawn.

I am sorry for the loss of your beloved papal tiara. Please accept the following legendary drop [Rainbow Flavored Papal Crown of Destruction and Tutti Frutti]

Your original papal tiara is no doubt irreplaceable in your heart, but hopefully this token can lessen the blow of your personal tragedy.

When I originally read this post, I was on my way from work and had to struggle not to fly off the road from laughing so hard. Needless to say, this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Thank you so much for your kindness JonZone. I shall remember this kind gesture for the rest of my existence.
