I can't figure out why my gold pile slowly decreases does research cost gold? I'm on the Tunnel mission and boy do I need to save up to upgrade my pop cap!

ARGH replacing food thingies is that it?

Plants are the only automatic upkeep in the game.

This basically - a plant will be replanted (and cost what it costs to build) every so often (Don't know how many harvests). So you'll want a good source of wood that you can sell off at 30 gold pieces per 100 wood.

Unless you have the cost reduction tech though wood farming now costs you gold so this method is a quick way to drive yourself broke so be sure not to rush to set up a wood farm unless you actually plan to use the wood.

You still earn a profit per wood plant without any improvements - this is how I managed to win the first 4-5 campaign missions alone.

What about the cheaper items research point and the influence tech? Don't they make it profitable?
They do, since each one reduces the cost of the item by 50%, combining them gets you stuff for 25% of their base cost.

Even with the re-tuned cost of wood, then, you can still turn a profit, albiet not as dramatic as once you could. And get ready to click for a while - even with the shift key held down, selling 20,000 wood for 6,000 gold is going to take you a lot of clicks.

Have you played the game post update? This is no longer a good way to make money. its a 1 for 1 trade off now.

I have not - and it sounds like I'm not going to either. :p

I don't like not having a renewable source of income.

We will soon patch again, giving the player an option for selling/buying rates. That means you can sell wood (or any resource) for a great profit, or for no profit at all. Your choice. :)

You're awesome!

Thank you for listening! :)
