I can't believe this:

"Richard sailed home by way of the Adriatic, because of French hostility, and a storm drove his ship ashore near Venice. Because of the enmity of Duke Leopold he disguised himself, but he was discovered at Vienna in December 1192 and imprisoned in the Duke's castle at Dürnstein on the Danube. Later, he was handed over to Henry VI, who kept him at various imperial castles. It was around Richard's captivity in a castle, whose identity was at first unknown in England, that the famous romance of Blondel was woven in the 13th century.

Under the threat of being handed over to Philip II, Richard agreed to the harsh terms imposed by Henry VI: a colossal ransom of 150,000 marks and the surrender of his kingdom to the Emperor on condition that he receive it back as a fief. The raising of the ransom money was one of the most remarkable fiscal measures of the 12th century and gives striking proof of the prosperity of England. A very high proportion of the ransom was paid, and meanwhile (February 1194) Richard was released."

"C. Kidnapped
- on return from the Crusade
- held by Frederick Barbarossa's son, Henry VI, for a "king's ransom"
- England was brutally taxed to pay
- Richard I had to turn England over to Henry VI and hold England as a fief"

Will we be able to do this in CK? (Force a king to become our vassal).

If so, you would probably have to capture the enemy king during a battle. Would not imagine that such a thing as capturing a king as the result of a shipwreck would be in the game - just didn't seem to happen that often.:)

Why the Pope should rule England...

We can continue... :D

John Lackland, in order to avoid Philippe II' invasion in 1205, submit to the Pope, and offers him all his kingdom, sent back to him as fief...
Seeing the new orientation of the Pope, Philippe II renounces to his invasion...

What a pity... :(

;)

Why England should rule Germany

...just to turn the table:

Richard of Cornwall was King of the Germans for 15 years (1257-72) before the Imperial throne was usurped by the pesky Alcatian-Swiss Habsburg upstarts. So truely the Empire should have been on English hands! :D ;)

yeah right. but unlike the position of an english or french king, the position of german emperor was not transfered by inheritance, but instead, a well defined circle of nobles chose the new emperor upon the death of the old emperor.

Funny then that out of the 27 following Emperors, 19 were Habsburgs... ;)

Capturing a king happened fairly often. And it should be in the game.

White ship disaster, anyone? Another example of a ship causing mass chaos.

All democratically elected!

Mind, that was because everyone knew they wouldn't be able to infringe upon the rights of the nobility.

Hmm. Will there be any way to make the Empire hereditary?

What would be cool is if each of your barons were forced to 'acclaim' the succession each time your king died or pick an alternative candidate with the possibility of revolt if the player overrules majority will.

Just like in EU2 no one knew how the HRE is elected - so it was easy.to rig the elections.:p :D

Wasn't there an Imperial Law passed under the Luxemburg dynasty, which basicly said that a German king was to be chosen from the same dynasty?
So, the German crown became hereditary to the house of Luxemburg , but after the dynasty went extinct, and Rudolf of Habsburg was chosen, the German crown became hereditary to the Habsburgs...
