Is the release date really Q3?

That's only 6 months away, give or take. Is this game pretty nearly finished then? Seems strange to keep quiet about a new game for that long especially when it's a new IP. Oh well I suppose Japan sells itself. :)

EDIT by safferli: title adjusted to give more information

Really? And we have to wait longer for CK2? :( :(

Really? And we have to wait longer for CK2? :( :(

Come on, don't be like that :D

We all know CK2 is a much harder game to make, with a similar depth, but a larger scope. Sengoku is focused on Feudal Japan, not on a Feudal Continent. Sengoku requires much more research and details in order to be interesting, but I assume CK2 was harder to design from a technical standpoint. 'Course, the developers themselves will correct me here if I'm wrong.

seems kinda strange no?

We're never going to get CK2, don't you know? The announcements are just to keep us here and buying Pdox games until CK2 is released, which it never will be. Besides, if CK2 did come out, they'd have to declassify the secret Ghost Pages of EU3 Strange Screenshots.

Not at all. It uses 90% things that are developed for CK2 anyway, is much smaller in scale and can be used to find and iron out problems with the CK-variant of the Clausewitz engine. Seems logical to me that it would be released first.

I'm actually hoping Paradox's c-team continues to churn out regional CK2 clones. It's a very, very fun mode of gameplay and great for a lot of stuff. Ancient near east, Greek city-states, declining Roman Empire, dark ages, ancient and medieval India, any period of conflict in China, all of these would be perfect with their own modifications of the CK system. Even later stuff like revolutionary and Napoleonic Europe, revolutionary Latin America, Russian Civil War, and postcolonial sub-saharan Africa would be great with the character system and limited recruitment, albeit the focus would need to change from families to factions and ideologies. I also think EU would benefit greatly from a toned-down character system, which would add a lot of missing, well, character to it since long, detailed event descriptions aren't available any more.

I'm still hoping that one day, after that other game has failed utterly for ignoring the setting's nature, Paradox will make a licensed ASoIaF game. Ah, but that's just dreaming - in principle, I totally agree with you.

Couldn't agree more. But maybe it won't be necessary: for what I have read about CK2 it looks like the perfect game for an ASOIAF mod to work. I hope somebody is brave enough to tackle that huge but glorious task :)

Well, I do still owe someone some help with a Westeros mod. Wouldn't mind contributing that on CK2. Actually, I might actually find it in me to spearhead that effort, if I'd find someone able to modify maps...

I'd be happy to help with such a project :D I'd probably even try to adapt some of my old work to the CK2 engine if I'm not too busy when it comes out. But I don't think I'll be leading it this time, if something like that is ever going to be completed it needs to be handled by somebody better than me at team building :p

Back on topic, I just hope Sengoku will have enough time to get sufficiently polished. I'd hate for this new and interesting direction taken by Paradox to become ruined by trying to rush things...

Please,no more CKII 'clones' or spin-offs. I think Sengoku will be an excellent little game and the setting suits CK-style dynasty driven gameplay, but not everybody would prefer this to, say, an EU3 clone.

i think what L'Afrique said would be pretty good idea. To add to the collection of CK games, smaller games that focus on certain parts of history instead of spanning centuries would be great. And if the features of one particular one is taken up well by the community they can incorporate the feature into the Big 4 games series (think the very long EU or the century long Vicky with CK's diplomacy/politics/characters).

Although, As long as Paradox continues to make grand strategy games that cover at least 1 century and who are well supported and have plenty of expansions to expand in certain areas then i'm happy.

The following question is not trying to be ironic, but, well, reflexive.

What could be a EU III clone?

EU: Rome before Vae Victus.
