Why are there only Lt. Generals and not Mj. Generals?

Not really, you will not only save micromanagement but most importantly it will help the ai to avoid the overcommand. That is the reason why it was done and seems to be working as intended.

Major Generals command single divisions - Lt. Generals command groups of divisions (corps) etc.... I never have attack with single division units - just too small.

You'd be upgrading to Lt Generals once you hit skill 5 anyway since a skill 4 Lt gains xp faster than a skill 5 Mj. Personally, I like the change. Managing tons of single divisions was annoying. I also like the downgrade they did to Generals to make FM more valuable.
