As far as I know, there has been no successful medium/high profile F2P RTS developed yet.

Even big franchises like COH Online and Total War Arena were scrapped and deemed unfit for this business model (although Wargaming is trying to resurrect the latter)

Will see how Soldiers: Arena (F2P version of Men of War) will work out, but I don't have high hopes

About DLC, I do think an eastern front pack would help a lot, I know like 3 people who say they'd be much more interested in it if it contained the eastern front (I do know quite a few commies though so take that with a pinch of salt).

To be honest I'd be happy with anything that isn't more bloody bocage :p Eastern Front tends to be well served as is, but then it's probably the most obvious when it comes to completely new divisions. Personally I'd love to see something covering the Italian theatre but I suppose that wouldn't have quite the same potential. The Bulge and Market Garden are probably the obvious touch points, but beyond maps they'd also not be a massive shakeup (although I suppose the maps could also be significant - I'd certainly be interested in something that was almost entirely urban fighting for example).

The eastern front offers a lot, new divisions, new nations including more than just "Germany" for the axis, all new equipment including some of the biggest guns in the war and new terrain possibilities. But in that, it is also a huge job, especially balancing it with the Normandy part. I think it's better suited to its own game, but at the same time I don't think that would be the best idea. I'm not sure that they would want to, letalone how they would handle it. But like I said, my subjective experience is that I know a number of people who would be more interested if the eastern front was represented. I also would love to see it.

I think it would all be better served if they morphed the game from being a discrete series of games (if that is the intent) like the WG series, towards more of a 'game system', where they can release extra nations and equipment, with 'modulated' additions, to enable players to plug in whatever nation/division they want into whatever game of the series.

I suspect it's partly down to the low population; it's kind of a convenience thing - why would I sit twiddling my thumbs for five minutes trying to find a game in MP when the AI can give a satisfying match without the wait. Beyond that it's simply a question of making the multiplayer more attractive - at the minute the only thing I can't do in an AI skirmish is 10 v 10, maybe add another mode or two that's only available in multiplayer?

Doubtful it'd go free to play, but I suspect a Steam free weekend with a 15 - 25% discount on the game might work wonders. Probably want to wait until the DLC launch though.

Think it´s to soon for something like that. If you can trust Steamspy the game has 100.000 owners (+/- 10.000) and now ~500 are playing at the same time in average. They should first balance a bit and fix bugs and then make something like that.
Even if they would sell another 100.000 copies it wouldn´t be worth for playerbase if you have than only 1.000 players and more bad reviews compared to a later sell with more people staying. The number of sold games compared to the average players is caused by a to early publishing imo. If they had run the beta-phase a bit longer, try and balance there all divisions while fixing more bugs a lot more people would still play it maybe. But like I wrote elsewhere, that is also an economic aspect where you don´t know the details and the reasons.

I stopped caring about Soldiers arena when they announced healthbars on tanks... Mow's main attraction to me was the no health bar tank system. so ill just stick to AS-2 RobZ mod for now.

It's crazy to see how quickly the players dry up once the sun starts setting in the Atlantic...550 players around 1 pm PST...by 3 pm it's at roughly 230 and then just hovers above 150 until midnight.

Nice to see some of the same players in games that are fun to play with but you also encounter the same trolls as well...
