Hi there,

I've been pondering on what could possibly be next releases from PI (CK2 isn't really my cup of tea, though I did enjoy CK to some extent -- I find it try and lacking the complexity of EU3, HOI2 and, in particular, Victoria 2). There are not too many areas to explore as most of it has been covered in aforementioned titles. One idea popped into my mind, however -- how would you find a game on the Cold War, something similar in its spirit to Arsenal of Democracy, but in which war mongering is not the only viable option, as the game, as I imagine it, would focus more on politics, espionage and society issues (Hawks and Pigeons, McCarthy, destalinization, things). A hybrid of Victoria 2 and AoD, indeed, it is. Have you guys ever played a board game of Twilight Struggle? A computerized version of it, released by PI, oh boy.

(let me say hi again, it's been a lot of years since last I posted anything to the forum).

(Cold War was already mentioned in the thread, sorry for not coming up with something original ;-))

I only discovered that yesterday by visiting their forums, and now I'm wondering why there's no mention of it here?

Its not being done by AGEOD, its being done by an external party. Nothing that Paradox Development Studio is involved with.

Ah, my bad. Thanks for the clarification! But are you still publishing it?

Thats something for the people at PI to answer, as we're a pure development studio.

So you're aiming for the second half of 2013 with the new game? Something like "after the Summer"?
I believe it could be Q1 2014 as well. HOI3 was released 12 months after announcement, but CK2 was released, IIRC, 18 months after announcement. So if pdox reveals new game in august 2012, it may not be released before march- april 2014.
Also I believe that it will be EU4 - we’ve had recently one new franchise game (Sengoku), and it’s too soon for HOI4 or Rome 2. As for EU3, is quite old now, at will be much older in 2014. So I guess that in 2012 pdox will announce: EU4, DLC for CK2 and maybe an expansion for HOI3 or Vici 2.
Post here as Johan if you want to hint it's Rome 2, post as Balor if you want to hint it's not. Pretend you didn't read this post so noone can prove anything. Write something that in its message denies it's a hint.
I see that Johan took you by surprise: in this thread he posted as Johan and as Balor :p

Walker, I guess that means Eu4 then. :)

Got a couple leaks from Johan's session on Reddit:

Do you have any plans for more games like Sengoku in the future? In other words, strategy games focusing on very specific periods, locations, and situations in history, rather than your usual epic continent-spanning games like CK2 or EU3.

yes :) We got 1 in development now.. I'd argue Ck2, Rome and Sengoku are the same type of limit compared to entire world games like eu and vicky.

If I were a betting man, I'd put my life savings on us making another hoi3 expansion...

Would be neat if it was a game focused primarily in Asia, incorporating India, China and Japan from 700 or 800 to around 1600's maybe?

If not that, it would have to be a new Rome game.

EU3 still has another 3-5 years of life in it IMO, what with modders and all. Even longer if there are still expansions for the game(with improved map and graphics) planned.

Paradox would surely screw that game up, what with their total ignorance of Asian history/culture and all...

Eh? What makes you say that?

Treatment of South-East Asia in DW, treatment of Religion in Sengoku/EU, treatment of China in HoI2, I could go on...

So basically you don't want Paradox to ever focus on Asia... because Paradox didn't focus on Asia in the past?

No, because when they try to focus on Asia you get (something like) Divine Wind. Paved with good intentions as they say...

By that logic, Paradox should stop making any games. And I fail to see how that'd be any better for anyone.

How the hell did you arrive at that conclusion? Europe is by no means as woefully inaccurate as the way Japan was portrayed in DW (and EUIII in general)
