Wildlife in dome?

So this struck me as strange. I've been playing with all the season pass stuff installed. I haven't built any ranches, and I have done extremely minimal terraforming. I noticed though that there are deer inside the domes. This seems...really weird.

Is this on purpose? It just seems like an extremely odd choice to have wild animals roam inside the domes.

Those are pets.

Pets are coming to Mars: 25 different pets of 10 animal types will start living alongside colonists after Founders stage is over, there are enough colonists and comfort is high enough. Pets include cats, dogs, penguins, platypuses and more.

Where I live, I can easily see deer whenever I want. If I were on Mars that wouldn't be the case. You would probably see a lot of wierd pets.
