Will artillery computer attack with only short range weapons?

Hi. I got a recycled battleship from the enclave and it has artillery computer and auto cannons with 2 strikecraft. Do the strikecraft count as weapon and artillery computer will attack with them or will it fly near to use the auto cannons in every other slot?

Or will it only use cannons for defense when something comes near it?
