Thingys. What do you wanna customize? Just everything?
We will be able to customize our race. We will probably not be able to alter their looks though, not like in Spore at least.
We can also customize our ships. If that only means equipment or also visuals, we don't know.

Maybe not on Spore level, but changing body parts, colours, hair and so on would be great.
If they've all got animated portraits and things, I would have thought you'd have just have to choose from the set list unless they've been very clever about it.

But why? It'ss not like you see your creations apart from portraitss.
Would be stupid to see same portraits over and over again. Remember that idea is that you encounter different aliens every time. Besides I believe there will be customization for that since you can have many lesser species in game, so they will need to look apart.
They are enough different portrait sets. But because of portraits it's impossible to give them customisation. How do you want do customise hand drawn portraits? You can't alter the lenght of their hands or something like this.
If they are hand drawn then yeah... I mean I though it would be like CK2 where you design species, much like your ruler designer ( species designer, DLC dammit). Though if they are hand drawn I assume then you could just add more yourself? Like adding portraits in RPG games.
I'm sure you can add new ones yourself. Paradox games are very moddable in things like this
yes, under the portrait customisation i imagine the ruler designer thing too. however i don't know what is a civil ship. like the trade ships in eu 4?
I don't think it's like the ruler designer. You simple choose a portrait set. The portraits we have already seen don't look like CK2 which were combinations from different pieces.
Indeed. Also, I wonder if you will be able to customize just ship systems or outside looks too? If yes, then to what extent.
I hope for some ability to customize homeplanets beyond mere climate differences. Would do much to add flavor to the your species if their home had a wee bit of personality. Also a choice in art for the race. An insectoid race doesn't have to live in hives.

I certainly could be wrong, as much as I would not like to be.
But for the moment I hope those are just development place holders.
