It seems reasonable that we would think such a thing. For our species is the only one we know of developing such an intricate civilization and the only one capable of reaching the stars and who knows what other civilizations we will encounter? We will treat them nicely of course. We would never ever attack another Galactic Civilization.

Is for Stellaris to be realistic. When you start committing massed Tyrannical acts not only your nation but other countries band together to crush you. Nothing would please me more than every person who wants to channel their inner sadist to be crushed.
Sorry this is like the fourth topic on this this week and it's really started to irritate me how everyone assumes that massed genocide should be easy to pull off. It's like the CK2 forums where someone goes "all I did was falsely imprison and execute a duke and everyone is all rising up against me wtf!"

I believe the RPS article discussed the way that warmongering/nasty behavior can lead to other galactic powers forming a federation without/against your people. I agree, though, I think there should definitely be a noticeable shift in the way your people are perceived and treated if your primary approach to diplomacy is genocide and enslavement. The response of your own people to your actions should largely depend upon the ethics of your society IMO.
Besides, it makes the challenge of being a sadist more fun.
