Hi everyone,

I am now about to change my good old PC with a bit more modern setup and I was wondering -- is this game going to utilize 8 cores? Is there any point getting e.g. i7 4790k instead of i5 4690k? I still keep in mind how horrible Cities XL was, performance-wise, utilizing single core only.

Any guidance much appreciated.

Steam is showing the following requirements.

MINIMUM:
OS: Microsoft Windows XP/Vista/7/8
Processor: 2 GHz Dual core
Memory: 3 GB RAM
Graphics: nVIDIA GeForce 8800, 512 MB RAM or ATI Radeon HD 3850, 512 MB RAM
DirectX: Version 9.0
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 2 GB available space
RECOMMENDED:
OS: Microsoft Windows 7/8 (64-bit)
Processor: 3 GHz Quad core
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: nVIDIA GeForce GTX460, 1 GB RAM or AMD Radeon HD 6850, 1 GB RAM
DirectX: Version 9.0
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Hard Drive: 2 GB available space

I'm sure either of the two CPUs you listed will be way more computing power then the game will be able to use. Also the I7 is still a quad with hyper threading not an octo....

the I5 is a much better buy for gaming. The difference is marginal and there are some games that don't handle hyper threading perfectly so that I5 actually comes out a bit ahead on those.

Sorry if this sounds stupid, I'm not very big on hardware, but can you get the recommended specifications with a laptop?

Yes but you would need your laptop to have a dedicated graphics card. Some of the better integrated grphics options out there will ine up with the minimum spec, but you should wait for it to come out and ask someone on the forum to make sure it works on their machine if you are using integrated graphics (I have both a desktop and a laptop and my laptops integrated graphics can play a lot of games as long as I play at 720P. I do have an AMD A10 chip which is about the best intgrated graphics you can have.

What is your laptops model?

You misunderstand: I'm going to *buy* a new machine just for this game.. I'm that excited. But I need to know what to buy: I want the best possible experience, and if that is only possible with a desktop, so be it. But if I can get exactly the same performance on a laptop, then I'd rather go with that, because then I can take it along on holiday with me, or take it to my friends to show of my cities.

The system requirements on Steam are not final ones and may be subject to change still! So please check out the recommended requirements as well:

Woah! My laptop exceeds all the 'recommended' requirements - 16 GB ram, NVidia GTX 850 card (2 GB), Win 8.1.... but a 3 GHz quad core? I have a 2.5 GHz i7. Holy moley! This must be some game! I guess I just thought I could run anything with no problem.

In SC4 I have to run it with 1 or 2 cores, If I run with 8 (mine regularly 8) game crashes.

Edit: I wonder how Colossal Order can make very good and small sized games. Other companies can make good but its usually 10GB or else. Good job (and of course excellent game engine) Colossal Order!

Can you give your laptop specifications? I want to go with whatever you're having. (Provided I can afford it, ofcause)

Since this is city simulation ergo CPU intensive, i'm hoping it's going to give much needed workout to my 3.1 ghz i5 :)
i hope it goes without saying, that this game will utilize 4 cores and with equal stress on each one. I don't want to see 3rd and 4th core only used for some background calculations, while 1st and 2nd core were overloaded on a max 100%.
