[Windows 10] [EU4 v1.34.5.0 - no mods] missing leaders makes Ironman savefile stored in cloud save freeze the game on a specific date

I am currently playing as Persia in an ironman game. I have been playing this save for several days now and all was fine, but when i loaded up the save file today I noticed that my ruler, heir and spouse had changed. They were completely different people then before. This had already happened to me in my last playthrough but then it didn't give me any issues so i thought it was just a minor bug. But when i tried to continue my current game it stopped working on a specific date about a month after my saved date. The game freezes partially. I can still move the mouse and mouse animations still work, but i am unable to interact with the game. There is no response from any button, however the music does continue. When i try to exit the game it seems like the screen is captured by EU4 because i cannot see any other open application. I am unnable to alt-tab or open task manager. The only way to close the game seems to be shutting off the pc.

I tried reloading the game and automatic backups of the game, but the issue remains. After doing some research and having verified game file integrity (showed no problems) i found a long list of errors int the error.log file in Documents\Paradox Interactive\Europa Universalis IV\logs. Allmost all errors look simular to the following:

[monarch.cpp:470]: Failed to find leader object with ID: type: 49. id: 7673 monarch ID: type: 0. id: 0

I was unable to find any information on this error online and am hoping that someone knows what happend for all rulers to disappear and if there is a way to fix this issue. I would greatly appreciate any help to try and solve this issue.

That sounds like a bug, although having it happen in two games in a row is pretty bad and unexpected! You are not even using any cosmetic mds in this campaign?

If so best to make a new thread in Bug Reports and post the save there.

As far as fixing the save file goes, that's beyond me. The redoubtable @grotaclas can sometimes help in that regard, otherwise the good folks in User Mods may be able to.

I don't have time right now to look at your save, because I'm preparing things for the wiki for the 1.35 release. But I have seen a few cases of save corruption where the rulers of many countries get mixed up. And I vaguely remember that one of the saves was also crashing. It might be useful if you make a bugreport with your save. But maybe the bug was already fixed for 1.35. If you start a new campaign in version 1.35 (it comes out in two days) and you get the bug again, you should definitely make a bugreport about it. In general I would recommend that you regularly create additional backups of your ironman saves, so that you have something to which you can go back in case you get any kind of bug or corruption(put them in a different folder and copy them back to load them and never load them directly, because loading an ironman save overwrites it and with some bugs, this can break the save).

Maybe @Jarvin can have a look at your current save. Untangling the wrong rulers would probably be a lot of work, but maybe it is possible to fix whatever is causing the crash.
