The CK2 launcher appears as a blank white screen. I can still interact with buttons but cannot see them at all. When I launch the game in fullscreen I can hear the music and see the cursor but the display is completely transparent. When I launch the game in windowed mode the screen is white like the launcher.

I've varified the files and re-installed several times. Tried vaious changes in the compatability settings.

Neither EU4 or Stellaris have similar issues but Rimworld does for some reason.

Has this game always been like this ever since you've had it? Or only since what change or update?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

It's only a recent development. I havn't played in about 4 or 5 months and since returning I've had this problem.

You can see in that system.log the game has not found your video driver properly.

Uninstall you nVidia driver and all associated utilities, then reboot.

Then install by fresh download a new copy of that driver
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Now BEFORE you run the game again, do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK2 or Documents CK2 locations, before installing again.

Good luck!

No luck. Went through the whole process twice and no change. Uploading new system and settings files.

Wondering if this is more a roll-back to an older driver or wait for an update situation.

Try changing that settings.txt as follows:
refreshRate=60
fullScreen=yes
borderless=no
But it is disturbing that the game still can't see what video card you have. If it's not a driver issue, it can really only be DirectX. How that could affect this game and not, say, EU4 I'm not sure though.

Huh that is odd. After changing those settings The game loads correctly but I still can't see the launcher at all... this is so weird.

Weird, as you say, I don't think I've even seen such persistent problems of this nature. Normally the video driver reinstall would do it.

The patch to 2.8.3.2 last night didn't change anything, I assume?

Nope, no change. Driver update to 398.36 hasn't changed anything either. I can play this way technically. Can't easily control my DLC or Mods but it's possible.

At this point I'm inclined to blame Windows and consider formatting but I'd really rather not.

It's particularly odd that it happens with CK2 but not EU4, as they are very similar.

We could try a clean re-install of DirectX 9 and VC++, I suppose, but again if they were broken that should affect EU4 and Stella too.

Those were the first things I tried because they were the solutions to similar problems I found threads about.

At this point I think all I can do is thank you for your help and try again after a few updates and see if anything has changed. Thanks for your help.
