Hi,

I am unable to get CK2 running on my laptop. When I try to launch the game exe manually from the steam folder I get this error "Program could not start 0xc000007b........" (See attached file).

I have tried reinstalling the game from steam, removed and installing again C++ 2010 Redistributable x86/x64 and C++ 2005 Redistributable x86/x64 and DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010), followed the faq and threads where people had similar problems without having any luck getting it up and running.

Any help would be much appreciated

Dxdiag log is attached

That error code is always the antivirus app getting in the way, or missing DirectX 9 or VC++ modules.

Exit the Steam app entirely and run ck2game.exe by itself. It will still fail, but to you see any other error now?

And add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list/whitelist of your AV app, whatever it is.

I get the same error code when I try to launch the ck2game.exe no matter if steam is running or not.
If I try the game through steam, there are no error codes or feedback at all that the game failed to launch.

I also whitelisted the whole ck2 steam folder in my antivirus program, but I still get the same error code.
If it's always vc++ or DirectX9 modules is there a way to check if I have them all?

That allows any apps to write to that folder, which is not the problem. What we are trying to achieve here is to allow ck2game.exe to write to the Windows User Documents folders, quite a different thing (and 90%+ likely to be your issue).

Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings II\ _CommonRedist\DirectX\Jun2010\ and run dxsetup.exe
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Crusader Kings II\ _CommonRedist\vcredist\2010\ and run vcredist_x86.exe and vcredist_x64.exe
Take note of what each of those 3 installers does, if it seems to actually do anything.

Also if you have installed a gaming VPN app called Evolve, or the MSI Gaming App, or Duet, disable it as it clashes with this game.
