EU2 does not work under my XP HE :( :( :(

Thats what I read:
AppName: eu2.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.0 Offset: 0002e22a

Microsoft Aid Center is a place for proffesional programmers only I supose, like any help file :(
I do not understand nothing of such mumble

I am in despair...

The only problem I had using EU with XP was that BinkVideo doesn't work with XP. I don't know if this is the same problem you're having or not--I don't know what the error message means any more than you do--but you might try renaming your the EU directory called 'avi' to something else.

Hope this helps or, if not, someone else knows what's wrong.

My neither.
I think that bink player was automatically disables on my PC. Wjat do I miss not having that player?

Wow, I just upgraded to window XP and was waiting for the new patch before reinstalling the game... Reading this thread has made me very nervous.:(

Don't worry, you will be able to play the game on XP. You may have to kill the BinkPlay process from the task manager (ctrl + shift + esc) to get past the intro video but it is only on some systems. I have 3 different machines running XP and I still haven't been able to reproduce this behaviour.

That is because you have that alien avatar - it prevents BinkPlay errors.:D

Now if we all had custom avatars there would be fewer problems.:)

Hm, I tried to change AVI directory. Do not help.
However I haven't noticed binkplay activity file in my task manager at all!

Why doesn't EU work?
After click of EU icon a window pops: up:
"Critical error excel file not found" (sic!)

I do not understand what's going on!!! :( :( :(

Did you install the game to the default directory?

Yes, I did:
C:\Program Files\Paradox\Europa Universalis II

If I remember correctly the "excel file not found" meant that something was in the wrong directory or had been altered.
I suggest that you uninstall and reinstall again. Do not apply any patch - try the game first. Do not apply any Mods etc.

OK I'll try
In matter fact I only tried after patching 1.04 and EEPing...

Yaabaadaabaaadoooo!!!
It works...
...patched 1.04 as well...
Now I must check if it does with EEP installed manually... :)

Thanks a lot ducky... :)

For what it's worth, I had to disable the Blinkplay too. It would lock up and ctrl+shirt+esc just dumped me out back on my desktop. On a positive note, I've had only one CTD in about 100 hours of gameplay since then...MUCH better than my 1/hr rate on Win ME.
