I have three suggestions that would enhance the realism of HOI2 (I play with DD and Armageddon). They are:

1.) Winterized and Ski Troops - These kinds of troops played an important role on the Russian front in WW2 and yet are not represented in the game. I think that there should be a tech track to develop winterized troops in the same way that there is for mountain troops or marines, and that such troops would get bonuses for fighting in snow conditions the same way mountain troops do in hills and mountain terrain.

2.) Revised Command System - I really dislike the way HOI uses leaders. Unless you want a horde of free divisions on your map, major generals are quite useless, and need to be promoted (which, of course, automatically downgrades their abilities) in order to handle corps. I would prefer a system which allows the player to assign leaders to individual divisions, and then place them into corps which would also have leaders assigned. Then, the corps, which are sprites or counters on the map, could be assigned to armies (and on to army groups) which would not have to consist of units only in the same map-area. Individual unit performance would then be modified not only be the unit commander, but by the divisional commanders within the unit and the higher level commands of which the unit is a part.

3.) Battle of the Atlantic/International Convoy Links - HOI2 makes no provision for international convoying, so that essential parts of the World War historically are not mirrored in game play at all. I am specifically thinking of the North Atlantic convoys and the Murmansk convoys. Part of my wish list would include something that reflects vital links like this. Both Britain and Japan, as island nations without all the necessary resources (including food production, in at least the case of the UK) were especially vulnerable to threats to their sea lanes.

That is my wish list for enhancements to HOI2. Now that the game has moved on, I suspect we'll never see too much in the ways of revision, though. I understand that the convoy issue has been addressed in AoD, and I'm now trying to learn that game. Until I upgrade my equipment, though, HOI3 is beyond me (no pixel shader in my video equipment.)
