I have been working for a week or so on this mod which, well, splits the collectivism/individualism axis in an elitism/pluralism and statism/minarchism axis.
I thought that as I already came this far, I could already place it here incase someone who is better then me in icon making or balancing might notice this.

Current features:
  • Elitism - Pluralism axis: locks government types and determines slavery tolerance, pluralism also has a slight research boost (As I presume they would be less likely to fall for something like Lysenkoism).
  • Statism - Minarchism axis: Statism gives a small bonus to minerals and slightly reduces food consumption, whilst minarchism gives a much larger increase in energy production (the idea is to give minarchism an economical advantage whilst statism unlocks better policies (like resettlement and lineage selection). Yes I'm aware that those things aren't really mutually exclusive but the other axes also suffer from such things.)
  • 6 new governments (some still need icons)
Planned features:
  • Balancing of ethos and governments
  • Better icons
  • Getting the new opinionmodifiers to work
Any feedback is welcome.

Lots of discussions have occurred with regard to the individualist/collectivism axis, most people have talked about a new Hierarchical/Egalitarian axis rather then the phrasing your using. While Elitism is synonymy with Hierarchical, the term pluralism is generally defined to mean something more like Xenophilic, aka accepting of different cultures and ideas within society as equal to the 'native' or original culture. So I think a name change would be helpful in peoples understanding.

Yes, I already considered it but I feared people could assume it would mean economical instead of political egalitairianism.
Though now I'm looking up pluralism it looks like it has even more definitions then egalitairianism...
So now I'm starting to become unsure which would be the most clear:confused:.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

I don't see how political and economic equality can ever be separated either in practice or in ethics. An egalitarian society is going to have that ethos through every aspect of society, government, economy, family, workplace even foreign relations. A Hierarchical society is going have hierarchy everywhere not just is some narrow 'silo' of the society like government or economics, this is one place where the 'planet of hats' aliens of Sci-fi get it right, core ethics of a society permeate everything.

I believe most players interpret egalitarian and all the Ethos types is this society-wide way. So the your concern over confusion is unwarranted.

Reactions:
Whilst I do agree there is a tendency for democracy to lead towards economical equality (and possibly the other way around), I do believe that it is but one of many factors so there will be a LOT of exceptions.
(Just look at Afrika in these maps.)

And to me xenophilia looks closer to cultural pluralism then statism does to economical egalitarianism, so I assume it would be less confusing.
I could be very wrong though .

V 0.2 is now out it mostly consist of bugfixes, the addition of the new planetary edicts and giving pluralism a less 'radioactive' icon.
I'd also like to ask for sugestions for a new icon for statism (as the current one looks to much like an A), and possibly the remaining 2 government types.

V 0.3 is just up it consist mostly of a few small fixes (like preventing elitist democracies from spawning) and finishing the remaining government icons.

As it looks like I'm unable to keep up with Ethic and Government Rebuild (I probably wouldn't even have started if I knew it was being build), I'm considering either just giving up or try to use the ethic system to create some sort of 'triangle' of economical policies (and turn the statism/minarchism axis in a communitairianism/libertairianism axis).

I like this mod idea, and since I noticed the discussion of terminology, I thought I'd make another suggestion. Perhaps "populism" is the name you are looking for to oppose the "elitism" ethic? That might fit a little better than egalitarian or pluralism.
