I've published a mod which adds a variety of new Vanguard units including: Vanguard Officer, Sniper, Machinegunner, Special Forces, and an APC; they're not fully balanced yet and have some bugs I'm working out. Additionally, I've begun to add a bunch of new heroes to fill your roster and am taking suggestions.

Community of Heroes
I've begun to implement new custom heroes for you to pick from in-game. The default game only has a dozen units per faction and runs out quickly; this should fix that.

Custom heroes can be much more unique then the generated leaders because they can use anything as assets.

Want your heroes in the game? Post them here and I'll work on implementing them.

Models and Texturing
Do you have Blender or Maya and got some free time? Are you a wiz with Photoshop? Know of any free and open source assets? Just want to help?

I want to have a huge variety of models for these (and future) units. Making the units is getting easy but modeling is hard. Hit me up if you are interested in helping.

Known Bugs
- Vanguard Machinegunner attack SFX doesn't work. FIXED
- Vanguard Snipers pistol attack shoots an invisible pistol.
- Special Forces unit probably sucks right now and attacks are buggy as well. (seeing a pattern here)

Vanguard Unit Idea Brainstorm
I'm only doing Vanguard right now.
• Local Militia- A tier 1 cheap infantry unit that is pretty damn weak (see Raiders for reference).
• Vanguard Veteran- A tier 2 improved infantry unit.
• Vanguard Machine-gunner- A tier 2 infantry unit armed with a big ass machine gun.
• Vanguard Sniper- A tier 2 specialist infantry unit armed with a long range sniper rifle.
• Vanguard Officer- Tier 2 support unit who is armed with a pistol gains better drone tech as he levels up. Also, can use Targeting Field OWL ability to focus fire on targets.
• Vanguard Special Forces- A tier 3 elite infantry unit armed with a SMG who can get up close and do some damage. Dark armored Troopers.
• Vanguard APC- Tier 2 support unit. Could have an ability to spawn a free crappy troop into battle.
• Vanguard Dropship- Tier 2 air support unit that can spawn in additional reinforcements and provide some air cover.
• Female Vanguard Specialist/Medic?
• Bodyguard Unit- Unit who absorbed damage for others.
• Vanguard Shotgun Unit- A tier 1 infantry unit armed with a shotgun. (Riot Control Team)
• Scientist Unit- A crappy cowardly guy who can buff the army. Grants science when the team kills enemies.
• Businessman Unit- A crappy cowardly guy who can buff the army. Grants energy when the team kills enemies.

The Vanguard APC

The Vanguard has recently developed their own version of the APC but are still trying to develop a way to fit men inside of it. For the time being it serves as an Infantry Fighting Vehicle to provide support and cover to friendly troops.

Features:
+ High HP and high armor.
- Low firepower.

Future:
Eventually, the APC will be able to spawn a temporary "Mechanized Infantry" unit (likely using the Outlander model) who can help you fight.
 
Hey mate, i use sites like cadnav, cgtrader has some very awesome free models and also cheap ones if your willing to throw a bit of money at it, this was my favourite by far, alot of customisation options

Finally have had the time to test out some mods and noticed that you're working on adding more heroes. Glad to see it, since the current roster is pretty limited. Posting one for each faction if that's allright?

I'd love to add your heroes, I can get started on them now. I just need to know what abilities and equipment you want to use (copying from another current hero).

EDIT:
Your new heroes should be in my test version of the mod now. Should hopefully have it updated assuming everything goes to play (it never does).

Heroes TODO
I'm not entire sure how hero modding works but I assume they come in classes corresponding to the secret tech factions. Also I've no idea what skills and abilities you can actually add to a hero without breaking the game, or causing major imbalance. But here goes:

Alexis De La Latere - Psynumbra Vanquard Hero - MX-2000 Sniper - Ranger Training (Amazon Hero Skill)
-> Much needed Vanguard Stealth option

Bhamini The Broker - Synthesis Syndicate Hero - Hasher SMG - Cerebral Override + Impose Discipline (Syndicate Overseer Skills)
-> Allows for using Indentured without needing an Overseer in stack

Caesar The Director - Xenoplague Assembly Hero - Chopper - Piloting (Global Hero Skill) + Martial Inspiration (Vanguard Hero Skill) + Thermal Weakness 2
-> Starting out with a morale buff for the Assembly units is pretty strong, so a nerf in the form of extra damage from fire seems appropriate

Lech The Dataminer - Synthesis Dvar Hero - Spike Gun + Combat Protocol Implants - Cyborg
-> Just curious what a cross-faction ability can bring, cyborgs benefit from Assembly buffs

Sin'Der The Firebug - Promethean Kir'Ko Hero - Purifier Gun - Thermal Status Effect Immunity + Psionic Weakness 2
-> Somewhat strong early game by being immune to fire debuffs and dots, so a weakness might be needed

Selena The Falcon - Voidtech Amazon Hero - Void Blades - Farsight
-> Helps a little with early exploration and enemy detection
