Ive just installed EU2+1.8 patch. But when I double clicked on the shortcut I got my HoI loading screen, with EU2 music, after starting the initialising graphics stage it crashed to desktop! And to make matters even worse its totaly screwed up my HoI(1.6),which has really pissed me off!I get an error mssg which sais something about a crittical error in 'DB'.So Ive uninstalled EU2 but now all I get when trying to run HoI is a 'could not find exe file' pop up.Grrrrr bloody weeks of my life have been thrown away coz of this!

Umm...this might seem like a silly question, but...
you didn't install them into the same directory, did you?

I don't see how your EU2 install could have screwed up your HOI. ;)

Uninstall both, follow the instructions here
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1101930&postcount=4

Do it for both HOI and EU2

Then Install EU2 rename the AVI folder to AVI_back
See if it works.
If not post back here.
If yes then patch to 1.08.
Ensure the AVI folder is still renamed.
Reboot try EU2.
If it does not work post back here.

If it works:
Install HOI from CD.
Reboot.
Try HOI
Reboot and try EU2
IF one or both do not work then post back here.
If both work.
Install Latest HOI patch.
Check both.
If one or both do not work post back here.
If both work, congrats you are where you want to be. :)

The problem is that because EU2 and HoI are based off the same engine, a great number of the files have the same names. So when you installed EU2, it wrote over many of your HoI files, but not all of them, meaning that both games were drawing on bits of the other's files. As to fixing it, I imagine not. EU" will almost certainly have overwritten your "Scenarios" folder, and the savegames are in a subdirectory there. I'm afraid that the chances are that you've lost your HoI save games, and all you can do now is reinstall all over again.

When you reinstall, check the paths of the installs carefully. My install for EU2 is \program files\Europa Universallis 2. If I had HoI, it would be \program files\Hearts of Iron. Whatever they are though, you will be OK as long as they are different and preferably in new or previously empty folders.

If you just use the default paths you will not run into this problem.
