I downloaded some of the muslim mods here on the forums, and eventullay got fed up of the titles issue: when you are muslim or pagan, you cannot claim or create them.

So i decided to start a muslim mod for the latest DV patch from scratch using the same solution ladyfabia used for her Muslim/Pagan Mod: i changed every character and province religion in the 1066 scenario to be able to play muslims as if they were orthodox. Of course, i changed the files to show the word 'muslim' instead of orthdox :D

I played a few games, and although it is possible to play as the seljuks and eventually lead them to rome :D , it lacks some... spirit.

The game was specially made to play christians, and there are tons of issues that just do not match with a muslim campaign. And that's what im working with now...

So here's what i got until now:

I modded the events files so 'muslims' will keep being shiite and sunnite

then i modded the diocese bishop job so it is now the 'court imam'. I know, it is a crap, but i did't know any other solution to that.

I'm working in the new kingdom map. That's it: christian titles won't be able to form again, and muslims will have the chance to create a number of kingdoms in heathen lands. That's what i got so far:

any ideas about the map?

what do you think about the names?

So are you making the Catholic tag 'Sunni', the Orthodox tag 'Shiite' and having the Sunni and Shiite traits 'Catholic and Orthodox' and changing the white faces to 'Dark' and vice versa?

Aye.

Not exactly,

i changed orthodox and catholic into jewish and renamed them as christians

muslims were changed to orthodox and renamed as muslims

pagans remained the same, and there are no jews (just made them 'pagan')

so no catholics in the game.

My muslims remain sunni and shiite (that is a personality trait since deus vult) by changing the events to affect now 'orthodox'

What is giving me most trouble is adapting laws and advances to muslim world. I think renaming it would do, but i just don't know what to call them...

i need your help with this :D

Ok, i got an alpha version of the Muslim MOD. There's still a lot of work to do, but it is almost done.

Does anyone have megaupload or something similar to upload the files?

For larger files I myself use Filefront (which is free).

For smallers files it is easier to just upload them on this subforum directly

Well, i'm waiting till the final result is a little bit more satisfying

I've spent some time creating arabic and andalusi inspired COAs as I hate the two color muslim COA in the vanilla version.

The whole thing still needs a lot of adaptation work wich I must deal with before an alpha release.

The most annoying is finding muslim counterparts for bishoprics and bishops, too christian flavoured traits and buildings, and technology advances.

Ideas are welcomed.

Also...

I've made about 100 islamic COA... but i just need a ton of them. Does anyone know where i can find examples of islamic painting or calligraphy?

(and don't say "try google", i did :D )

They look great but it will be hard to make them fit in the muslim circle shape :(

Concerning bishop/imam, I propose "ulema":

According to wiki, the Ulemas are best known as the arbiters of shari‘a law.

That is great.

Now, what for the diocese bishop?

Court ulema?

It would also be a good idea to change the ecclestical career into something more lawyer-flavoured... but events would need extense revision.

don't you think so?

...and...

...what I should do with bishoprics?

So... what about a bigger circle?

I'll work in this!

It would be a good idea to make masks for each title level one for beys, one for emirs and one for kings... sadly i don't have the necessary skills (i suck at design). Does anyone have these skills? :D

I haven't the skills too but AFAIK it's impossible to assign different shape tier to muslims, turks :(

Changing the whole flavor of the ecclesiastic carreer would have the unfortunate side effect of making Christian bishops 'lawyers' as well. Personally, I think 'Court Imam' is fair enough, even if it's historically inaccurate.

Few ideas for 'Kingdom' names (shamelessly stolen from Kim Stanley Robinson's 'Years of Rice and Salt' :p An alternate history novel where medieval Europe basically goes to hell.)

Scandinavia - Skandistan
Germany - Al-Alemand
Hungary - Magyaristan
British Isles - Keltic Sultante

It also refers to Europe itself 'Firanja', though some research suggests that it is, in fact, a name for France ('Franja'). So that might be an idea, too. Giving the four Atlantic isles their own createable kingdom seems a bit of a waste, by the way - seems more sensible to put them with Scandinavia or just with 'none'.

Another suggestion: maybe replace the 'Emperor' trait with 'Caliph'?

At any rate - good luck with this mod! I've been wanting to dominate Iberia as Sevillia or Cordoba for ages. :D

Court imam is not a title I would recommend. For Shi'ites, and those in the medieval era particularly, imam was a title that had mystical, even millenarian connotations, to put it loosely. I also don't recommend ulema, because that word describes a collection of religious scholars, not an individual. They are also not clergy, because such a thing doesn't exist in Islam. To put it frankly, there really isn't a suitable counter the to 'bishop'. As far as individuals that are knowledgeable and/or authoratative in matters of religious study or law, there is the faqih, referred to as a 'canon lawyer'; the mufti, a formally recognized legal expert, and the qadi, the Islamic judge, who due to their upright status and typical fame might be the best choice here.

Of course, you could just go with the singular form of ulema, which is 'alim. Just for simplicity's sake.
