A smallish AAR. win or lose I have a twist- as per usual with a worst series of AAR. Normal difficulty, nothing to exciting. Whats the deal with a Soviet AAR? Build massive army, spam infantry, crush Germany and take over the world. Not to hard. In the Worst Soviet AAR Pt I I had a self imposed rule of only building militia to fight the Germans off with. Turned out it was alot easier than I thought with the Germans getting to the gates of Moscow and Stalingrad before being beaten back. I could up the difficulty level I suppose but wheres the fun in that. Most strategy games just penalise the player or bump up the resources the AI uses.

Heres the twist. 1936. Disband your entire military. The Soviets are not allowed to build a single land unit before Barbarossa which the AI will launch in 1941. I'll buld some air units probably a few tac bombers but nothing to excessive by 41 as I don't want to cheese the Germans to death with massive amounts of airpower. No switching land doctrines, and who cares about the size of the navy. I might build some battlecruisers if I get bored enough. Last time the Soviets had a large fleet of modern BB but this time around I'll have to research other units.

I'm also using the improved graphics mod which has swastika in it so I may not be able to put in pictures of German units and I don't know how to black them out like others have done. In the event of a Soviet victory in Europe the AAR will probably end or I'll swich to the UK or another nation that isn't the USA. Hopefully there will be some nice battles around Sverdlosk.

A new day dawns in the USSR. Soviet scientist are commissioned to research new technologies to upgrade the non existent army.

Talking about the army not a single unit remains. The navy and airforce are in a similar situation. The resources saved are diverted to improving the economy.
ScreenSave1.jpg

A new 5 year plan is launched to finish in 1940. New airfields and infrastructure will also be built. Each time a new cycle is completed the extra industial capaaity will be reinvested into building more industry.

Militia only army would be interesting! That is what Stalin have anyway at the beginning no wonder they died by the millions!
To blank out swastika, you can open the bmp picture file using Windows Paint and just add a big black dot from the many drawing function over it.

I've already done the militia army thing. Wasn't that hard and had enough IC left over to build a big BB fleet. The USSR essentially has unlimited manpower methinks.

Another interesting idea for an AAR, I'll be following this. At least you should have plenty of IC when the war starts, hopefully you'll have enough time to use it.

There's a couple of swastikas showing in the final picture btw- as has been said it's easy to edit in Paint.

The first 5 year pan was finished in late 1940. A non aggression pact was signed with Nazi Germany. A defenseless USSR had little choice. IN late 1939 foreign agitators tried to provoke a war between the peace loving Soviet people and Finland. Due to having no armed forces whatsoever last minute diplomacy averted a crisis. Germany however annexed Poland and to save a few Polish citizens eastern Poland joined the Union. 1940 rolled around and France fell to the Germans in July.

With the specter of a rearmed Germany dominating Europe diplomacy efforts were aimed at the Baltic states. Seeing the wisdom of Soviet protection they willingly joined the Union. Pity we have no army to defend them with but nevermind.

On June 22 The German betray the USSR!!!!!! Who would have thunk it. A quick reveal of the view your armies indicates the USSR has no infantry, tanks, HQ's, or even a single division of militia to its name. New orders are placed while produciton on aircraft continues. To make atter worse Small arms assembly line had only barely begun to be researched. X20 inf, X20 militia, X3 tanks and X2 HQ divions are rushed into production. Reports indcate that vandals have splashed paint over the flags of the German embassy. Hooligans.
ScreenSave19.jpg

All along the front line heroic pilots of the Red Airforce race to intercept German troops pouring over the border. Tactical bombers target infrastructure and bomb roads and railway lines at night in an effort to slow the fascist invasion.
ScreenSave20.jpg

German spearheads encounter almost the entire Red Airforces ground attack planes flying out of Kiev. They manage to pick off some stragglers here and there and destroy several armored divisions. The NKVD are ordered to investigate reports of spies censoriing intelligence reports.
ScreenSave21.jpg

A month after the invasion the German units have penetrated deep into the USSR. No units have yet been raised to stop them. Industry has been shifted to Siberia. Several airfileds get overrun destroying several planes which carelessly forgot to evacuate in front of the German advance. Some idiot forgot to order them to withdraw.

Good luck.

To make this more interesting if you had Arma, you should have had 'Full IC Takeover' On.

German Naval assault captures Leninngrad in a surprise move. They destroy 33% of the USSR CAS (4) and around 25% of the USSR's tac bombers (6). Stalin vows revenge.

ScreenSave24-5.jpg

A naval blockade of Germany is initiated. Take that Hitler!!!!! A18 destroyer flotillas will desroy the Kriegsmarine. Mental note to Stalin- you forgot to build capital ships.

ScreenSave25-4.jpg

In august the first red army units reach the front lines. IN a little over a month the Germans are very close to Moscow.

ScreenSave26-4.jpg

2 months in and a whole 12 militia units or so and the Red Airforce are all that stands in the way of the German onslaught. Maybe this plan wasn't such a great idea.

ScreenSave27.jpg

A few weeks later the first infantry divisions have been raised and are thrown into the fight to stop the Germans. Stalingrad is expect to fall soon. The last remaining CAS have picked off several panzers who got ahead of the pack and the German assault is running out of steam in this sector.

The Kriegsmarine taste their first defeat at the hands of the Soviet Navy. Wheres the Tirpitz?

By early October the evil fascists were at the gates of Moscow. Early frosts setted on the ground as artic winds bellowed in from the north. Very few Soviet divisions were available to defend the heart of the Rodina.

ScreenSave31.jpg

The news was slightly better at sea. With minmal aid from the British who pnly contributed aircraft carriers the Soviet fleet sinks several German ships. Royal navy who needs them?
ScreenSave32.jpg

Over the winter months several desperate counterattacks are launched to break the stranglehold around Moscow. The remnants of the Red airforce provide support where they can.
ScreenSave34.jpg

Six months after the launch of Barbarossa the Germans have captured Lenigrad and have reached the gates of Moscow and Stalingrad. Maikop the cornerstone of the Caucasus has also fallen.

ScreenSave36.jpg

The Soviet navy's destroyers bravely engage the German fleet. The Bismarck and Tirpitz make short work of the brave sailors. Damn royal navy, where are they when you need them? Useless British.

ScreenSave38.jpg

Happy new year. The Americans declear war on Nazi Germany. Will their aid arrive in time? With the front line essentially static in the east due to winter, Russia braces for the Wehrmachts summer offensives.

ScreenSave39.jpg

So how big is your army now in comparison to the German one? It's a rather disappointing performance from the Germans, they're performing better than OTL but they still can't take Moscow even after months of unopposed advances! :p

At the time of te update it still wasnt that big- Germans must outnumber me 2-3 to one ansd most of the aremy is miltia. I think the CAS managed to eliminate a few panzer spearheads and its gonna take time for the Germans to catch up. The front has essentially stabilised and I'm wondering how far do you have to go to lose to the Germans. Pt III no units and no airforce? Maybe the summer offensive wil crush me IDK or large amounts of reinforcements will capture Moscow. I was anticipating the Germans capturing Moscw before the snow at least. Tac bombers must have slowed them by destroying infrastructure.

I'm wondering how far do you have to go to lose to the Germans.
I for one hope your experimentation continues until you find that point. Science demands it! :D

It will be interesting to see what happens after the thaw - your position is OK if you minimize German gains
next summer, but if there's a breakthrough you could be in deep kimshee...

The first HQ units were ready for deployment. Virtually every tank the red army had was mased for a desperate counteroffensive along a narrow front. The goal was to cut the Germans off and pocket some of their army.
ScreenSave41-1.jpg

Of course the Germans also had their own plans. A quick diversion to support an attack to throw back a suicidal Panzer scout is allowed.

ScreenSave43-1.jpg

In the far east Japan strikes at Pearl Harbour. No units are deployed along the Soviet/Japanese border to repulse any northern Japanese offensive. At worst the loss of eastern Siberia won't matter to much and will take the Japanese several months to achieve.

ScreenSave44-1.jpg

The Bismarck and Tirpitz sink several more destroyers before they manage to slip away after dawn breaks. Perhaps the navy is a waste of resources?

ScreenSave45-1.jpg

The Germans are pocketed. An attempt to surround the Germans is launched into Novorossisk but the attack is repulsed. Follow up assaults on Maikop fair no better.
ScreenSave47-1.jpg

The frontiline after 9 months of fighting the Germans. Snow still blankets the ground and most likely both sides are planning summer offensives.

The Germans have failed to secure the knock-out victory they needed to and with your massive industrial build-up it's only a matter of time before you produce a bigger army than them and crush them with ease.
