Hi - I currently have two registration keys for Supreme Ruler 2020 Gold. One is for the disc version of the game I bought a couple weeks ago, and the other key is for the digital version I bought off the GamersGate sale yesterday.

Although I prefer digital copies of games now, I bought and registered the physical CD version of SR2020:Gold on these forums because I didn't think GamersGate was going to have a sale any time soon. But lo' and behold, it went on sale last week.

Definitely not complaining about GamersGate having a sale, haha. I just wish I had better timing and wouldn't have bought the CD version when I did.

So what I'd like to do is use my digital version of the game and register that particular key with these forums. That way, I will always have the digital version of the game and the correct key available within my new GamersGate library (just joined them recently, only used steam up to this point). So that no matter what computer I'm using years down the road, I won't have to keep track of the physical CDs any more.

But since I've already registered the game on these forums, I'd like to "release" the key of the CD version of the game I bought, so that I can either sell the game or convince a friend of mine to try out various Paradox games, where he can use that key to register the game here too. (I've already got him hooked on Civilization and Total War -style strategy games, but he's not ready to try out Paradox games just yet.)

In summary, my question comes down to this: Is it possible to un-register a game? So that I can register the game again, but this time with the correct key?

If not, that's fine, I think I'll just return the game I bought off GamersGate since I haven't "used" it yet according to the refund policy. But I REALLY would like to use the digital GamersGate copy myself, and be able to pass on my retail CD copy to someone else (where the other person won't have to worry about their particular key not working somewhere).

Not really possible, and It would not make a difference for your registration here.

Thanks for the quick response. Hmmm... maybe I don't have anything to worry about then. I think I remember Paradox's DRM being pretty lenient compared to most other companies. I just didn't want to risk passing on my installation CD to someone else and not have the serial key work for them on the forums.

So are you saying that as long as it's a valid active key (as in not blacklisted), the CD serial key can be registered by another forum member, even though that particular key is still "stuck" to my forum account?

Gamersgate is a seperate company.

No, if a key already has been registered, it can't be registered again as it will already be in use.

You want to keep the digital version but have it registered with the CD key.

So, isn't your question then:

Can you give/trade away the CD and let that person register the game with the digital key?

And the answer should be "yes". Your key is just for the forum, unless SR has anything special going on, so if you sell/gift your CD version just give whoever it is a note of your unused key and they can register with that.

Thanks for the help everyone. Yeah, it sounds like Darkrenown's approach is the best/only option. I guess I was just a bit worried that if I gave out the unused key tied to my digital copy, it may come back to haunt me down the road. But the more I think about it, the probability of something bad happening because of that is really like 1,000,000-to-1 odds.
