For many a time this writer has provided us with one of the most detailed and technically commented AAR's ever done. Containing, ultra-realism, detailed battle updates, casualty lists down to the plane and tens of infantry, and the experiences of key Finnish personnel.

His story marries an historic comparison of the conflict against his actual game and a smooth lithe style, making this AAR rank among the most readable and informative stories available. It should be noted that both of his current AAR's: The Winter War Diaries or the 'Play if You Dare', Beat the AI Contest: Poland are ongoing!

Coupled together with his mathematical genius displayed in deciphering the game engine, helping us all better understand the game engine. So for this week, join me in congratulating Math Guy, The Writer of the Week.

Sir, step forwards and introduce yourself.

Congrats, Math Guy. Your detailed style makes for a very engrossing read. :)

Congratulations! I don't understand most of the stuff, but it does sound serious and documented!:D

And your style is awsome for the avid WW2 reader....

Congrats!

Math guy is our resident scientist, forever picking apart the game in order to improve it, but that doesn't prevent him from also writing very ejoyable AARs.

Math Guy, I'm eagerly awaiting your MOD!

I'll add my praise here.. as well as point out that maybe he should have been writer of next week, or even the 2nd week from now, seeing as he has been, and is, extremely busy right now.

Well, cheers to Math Guy. :)

(And hoping his workload will lighten soon, in a good way)

This might be the most posts ever gone through before the actual WoW shows up :p.

Nonetheless, congratulations Math Guy!

I wouldn't say that. On my own WoW nomination (EU2 AAR session), IIRC about 10 people wrote before I made my "speech"!

Congratulations, MathGuy! You deserve this!

* and then the crowd awaits not too patienly for a word *

I think there could be some nice statistical work plus some rather advanced quant mechanisms involved that will show why and when Math Guy appears to write his little piece *smile*

Congrats

Er, can someone let Math Guy know he's been honoured... :D

Math Guy's stuff is top notch, even the technical info is broken down into laymans terms we all can understand. His accounts of junior officer experances at the front are something I will try myself in my AAR ( mispelled ARR cause it was 3 am... never start your AAR at 3am! ). Also his casultay counts are awesome... I may send him some figures from my battles in a pm, to see if he would be nice engough to put some numbers down for me.

Cheers MG, you deserve it.

Well isn't this wonderfully embarrassing!

I don't think I've EVER managed to go an entire week without logging onto the HOI forum . . . at least, not since I bought the game! :)

But there you are, the first time I'm away a whole week, that's when I get to be "Writer of the Week". What are the odds? Well, we could calculate them, but let's not! (Oh heck. They're 47 to 1. So there.)

I'm honored and flattered and terribly sorry I didn't show up to say "Thank you" a little sooner.

If I may, I'd like to repeat something I said in my very first post on this forum (although I'll use fewer words this time). One of the reasons I am excited about Hearts of Iron is because I think it has the potential to teach us some things about real warfare, and about history.

I like gaming as much as anyone. I'm an old, old grognard, 42 and counting. During the summer I took some time to learn Battlefield 1942, and after 50-60 hours of play I'm pleased to report that when I play online my kills-to-deaths ratio is only about 2 to 1 in the enemy's favor. (When I started I got killed about 5 times for every casualty I inflicted.) Even ancient warriors like me can learn new skills!

But what keeps me coming back here, and makes Hearts of Iron my favorite game, is that we're not just talking about the game -- we're talking about modeling history, developing mods and using the game engine to capture aspects of WW II that have never been presented in this kind of setting. It's an incredible opportunity, and the people on this forum have really outdone themselves in trying to make it happen.

I'm very glad to be a part of the HOI community. Thanks for making me "Writer of the Week" and reading my stuff.

A final note about my AARs and the Historical Statistics Pack -- have no fear, they WILL be completed. I'm incredibly busy but I won't be forever. See you all soon!
