14th of June 1945:
We recieved another message of infrastructure build in Congo. I still don't get how a bit of work there, will help us win this war here. We lost thousands of men when we could have used the industry here to help us get better weapons which could have saved those men. For once let them think of the men here! It doesn't matter anymore, all of this doesn't matter. This is a war without an end, a war into eternity, a war till we burn in the pits of Hell. I know one thing for sure though, after the war, I will not be able to celebrate any holiday, because on every day some men died. Declerq, Peters, Van Rompuy, De Wever, Milquet... all good men, now resting six feet beneath the earth or send home in a tin can... They gave their lives, they are the Heroes! Not those men who build roads far away from here! May God have mercy upon those who go away from the battlefield.

22nd of June 1945:
The GHQ has recieved the final reinforcements. Our army group now counts 12 divisions. Every division has a SPG-brigade attached. I can't wait until we start firing on Aachen again. It is also suprising that they actually thought about us, may the Germans fear us, may we show that we are Belgians, the bravest of the Gaels, that we were the fear of Rome with reason. That WE will be the fear of Berlin and it will be WE who will be forcing the door open to the Bunkers of "the Madmen of Berlin", it will be WE who will put our guns to their heads and WE will be the ones who will pull the trigger. But for now, they can rest... for now.
Yet we will be coming for them... even if it becomes our deaths.

Apparantly I should have been using this rank for 2 months now, they found the letter 2 days ago at the office. I'm not really trusting this promotion though...

25th of June 1945:
Here I am, sitting with a gun in my hand. You see, I am sick of fighting without stopping. I am sick of seeing friends die around me, whilst every bullet just seems to change course when it should hit me. I killed many men, including that young German soldier months ago and my little brother, for a part. I am not proud of myself and I somehow wish that someone else will be able to do what I could not. As I brought the gun to my head, this suddenly slipped in my mind... and what about the men I lead, the men that look up to me? If I kill myself right now, then the last bit of morale they got will dissapear. Then I abandon them like a coward. So I'll stay here till the end unless I can save people by moving away. This makes me think of 7 days ago...
I and my patrol were walking around and we went through a bush, there we suddenly stumbled upon these German positions, but we weren't get shot at. We inspected those positions and then we saw what was wrong. There were dead Germans in their foxholes, they must 've been lying there since the winter, because that's from when the latest letter dated we found. It were all Germans in Summer-clothing. What did these men think, staying there, whilst it became their deaths, why did they not send people out to get food or such? And then I saw the symbols on their shoulders, it were the madmen's lapdogs... And I didn't feel any bit of pity anymore. My compassion turned into hapinness, because they died. They wouldn't have showed mercy on us, so we didn't even bury them, we just left. And then I felt the pity come back, but I just ignored it.

These thought maked me put the gun back and then I went to look what the noise in the camp was...

"We captured this German!" One of the privates shouted. I went to look at the Germans face... to see if it was a famous sniper or so... And my breath halted.
This german's face... it looked familiar! How could this be? Where did I see that face before? "Execute that German!" Sub-Lieutenant Adriaans shouted. And suddenly I knew where I saw that face before... It looked exactly like the young soldier I executed back in January. Was this my second chance? The only second chance I'd ever get? Then I'd have to react soon!
"I object,sir" I said.
"WHAT?" ,he replied, "YOU WILL DO THAT ORDER NOW!"
"I will not do that order, seeing of command # 1247, that prohibited us to execute PoW's and if that isn't enough, then I here by resign from my rank and won't execute any orders from now on, until an investigation happened" I replied, knowing this was actually the same as saying, 'you can put me before a fire-squad,as long as you spare this German's life'.
"Very well, sergeant, I'll bring you before a court-marshall,soon enough", that's all he could say, if he would have done anything he wanted to do now, he'd have a whole company that turned against him, all he could say anymore was the following, which he also did, "go to your quarters and await the investigation, you aren't allowed to leave it before that moment".
Hours passed and then the Germans attacked with an unkown feriocity. A Private stormed in, shouting in panic "Sergeant, we need your help!".
"Why? What happened to the commanding officers?"
"The Captain is seriously wounded, the lieutenants are all dead, same for the sub-lieutenants and all the others are M.I.A.!"
"Hold the line, we'll keep the Germans at bay!"

The Germans did 2 attacks, both failed, we were saved by the counter-offensive, apparantly our company was the only one who rested on it's position, all the others had run away, so we made the job a lot easier, that fight was won thanks to us... and maybe thanks to me. But I still had to do the Court-marshall. In any other situation I'd have gone free.. but now I had to leave my division, where they'd send me to, I'll know soon enough... but not now...
The company is left behind with those M.I.A. found back... they couldn't get out their bunkers because of debris and the captain is going to survive and will be leading the company soon enough.

And i forgot to tell about one thing that I saw on the battlefield. I saw Death himself, slicing through the Germans with his scythe. And after the battlefield his voice said to me in my head: " You know, you were never supposed to live this long, it was you who had to die all these years ago and not your little brother. And all these times you were lucky wasn't forseen by me too, yet I will use you one more time...what you saw as your second chance was actually just choosing between killing or get killed". He didn't tell me what he meant with all that. And I must be insane...

Well I hope you all enjoyed this and I'm still looking for countries for my companies, please let me know if you got an idea. Also, sorry for the somewhat sloppy English ,
greetings,
Jonie-Dinofreak

sorry for the huuuge delay, but I've still got a dilemma about this AAR, either I let 2 of the main characters die, or I postpone the 1st offensive for an unknown time :/
plz give me advice xD

Been reading up, very nice to see you holding up till 1944, this might actually encourage me to try playing as a minor.
Playing as minor is alot of fun, depends which minor country your going to play as.

Guess who's back? (yeah, gonna do a new chapter, even though nobody is interested in this AAR, but for those who are, my thanks)

2nd of July 1945:
Today is a black day for the world, the beloved president of the USA, Roosevelt, has died. The chances of American aid might now be next to none. Perhaps we will have to surrender, now the balance of power is shifting. But if we do, will our deeds be remembered, will people remember how we held the line?
They say history is written by the victors, so probaly we will be forgotten then, then our brothers will have died in vain.
Time will tell our future, just let it be bright.

6th of July 1945:
We just brought a final salute to FDR and like usual, Aachen knew the news the first, so many Germans have died and still there are Germans ahead. I wonder when they hit their final reserves?

This was for you Roosevelt!

Also 3 hours later, we got news of the death of an Australian minister, it's a pity, but we'll honor him too! One day....

The German army recieved a lot of hope, zeal and stuff becuase of the recent events, they just attacked and suffered extreme casualities, talking about madness...

On other hand, I am training an experimental division now and tried to get reacquainted with a girl of the past, didn't work out to well that last thing, she demanded that I don't come within 100 metres of her and worst thing is... I live next doors.

Will write more when I find time , greetings,

If I understand properly, France doesn't send you reinforcements, and does not attack from Maginot Line, as always. USSR hasn't attacked also. Do you see any chance to finish Germans off?
Will they be suppressed by strategic bombing? Will Russians attack?

Won't be able to supress them through strategic bombing, coudln't possibly get so much bombers around the same time. France did send me reinforcements, but they're mostly in Liège. You got it correct about the USSR and don't see them attacking anytime soon. Only chance I see to weaken them is the thing I'm trying to do -> Scandinavia, then hitting them in the back, will show what makes it so difficult in a later post.

Hello. I just want to remind you we are waiting:) I am very curious of your Scandinavian operation.

You will learn more of it, but what happens might be dramatic...

anyway here is part 2 of the post of 08 may, enjoy,

8th of july 1945 (part 2)

Not only did we show the Germans our teeth today, my division is now nearly ready, we just learned the most effective way of doing an amphibious landing. We now are true landing forces, my company of Belgians is ready, next to the Nores, Mongolians, Americans, Poles, Dutch, Czecho-Slovaks, Siberians and German rebels. We also just got our battalion of armored cars, who will support us whenever they can. It just will take a bit longer and we can commence the war.

Now only if we knew if the Norvegian resistance will have some hot coffee ready for us....

12th of july 1945:

God bless Brittannia, they just did even more for us. Now I might be sounding like a true *******, but if they could only leave the Brittish shores and go hit some German U-boats and trade ships, then we can truly say the operation will be the biggest succes since the defense of our country.
]

But we will use whatever we recieved to hold the line!

The wind feels different but nothing is happening, we feel different, more glourious, but nothing has changed. Time will tell why we feel like this. On other hand, we recieved news about more charity work in the colony. We need other things, but we don't have that luck it seems. We will see...

For our glorious land we will wait, a bit longer.

Recruit Gunnar Oläfson:
16th of july 1945:
"Ten-Hut," our captain shouted, " prepare to move, you bunch of slugs! Show the other nationalities that we, Norwegians, are the greatest soldiers of them all! Where we go, the Germans will run, where we step, Norway will watch! But for now, WE MARCH TO GHENT! We march to our ships, that will bring us to OUR motherland! GO FOR NORWAY!"
And so we did, when the other company's marched, we ran, when the other ones rested, we kept on marching, we showed what we were. And still that one guy who is seen as a war hero, a veteran, stayed ahead of us and shouted to all the company's that we should move our 'lazy asses', for the Germans would else see us as easy targets in Norway. We all hate him, but we also respect him. We heard he lead a small recon group into defeating a whole German company that participated in an assault. Probaly exaggerated, especially the part where they destroyed at least 1 panzer IV in the assault, but still... something about him makes people respect him.
We trust our commanders with our lives, no matter the nationality.

For the First International Division! With the Rhino as our emblem, for like a Rhino we will chaaaarge!

21st of July 1945:
Seems the Belgian king recieved a special present for the Belgian holiday, the airplane company S.A.B.C.A. just designed transport planes for the Belgian airforce...
Perhaps once they will help us.

We just evaded an attack of a german patrol thanks to the Royal navy though... and that was just in the Mouth of the Thames.

The 23th of July 1945:
Norwegian shore:
"Silhouettes at the horizon!" that was the thing I first heard that morning, we were just hours before we landed and we were all cheerfull till then.
"Are they friendly?", "No sir, one of them is the Admiral Graf Spee, the others look like the Seeadler and the Greif", " Goddamn, contact the Zinnia, we're going to have a nasty run at our hands. TURN THE SHIP AROUND!"
We were all suprised that we turned around, but the other ships seemed to close in... very fast, our escorting destroyer, the Zinnia, occupied the Greif and the Seeadler, but the Graf Spee, he just ignored the ship...
The admiral mumbled " What is that ship doing?" and then the shout " They're going to board us, I'm afraid..." "Are they crazy, we've got a whole division here?" "Then they might just ram us, or come close enough so every shot hits us." Suddenly we heard a splash, that Belgian Sergeant jumped in the water and swam towards the Graf Spee... " What is he doing?","Ist Ihr Krank?", "Wat is er met die gast aan de hand?" and stuff like that was heard, we just heard he asked us to get as fast as possible out of there, he'd try to slow them down.
One guy took out a binocular to watch what happened. He told us exactly what happened: the man got aboard, the Germans hadn't seen him yet, so he took them by suprise, then he shot a couple dozen Germans on the front decks and disabled the frontal guns. Then he told us that the sergeant went to the other side of the deck, but when he came around the corner again, a German soldier sneaked up behind him, we however got to far for the man with the binoculars to see what happened.
"Send a message to Brussels, tell them that Sergeant first class Jozef Jansens is MIA, most probaly KIA and we might have lost the Zinnia".
The mood on the ship was dark for the rest of the day...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Command post of the transport ship, 5 hours later:
"This is the Zinnia, we managed to escape those Germans, but we got shot up badly, very badly, but we survived", "Good to hear, any news on the Graf Spee?", "Just that there was a lot of commotion on it and we heard a lot of Germans jelling, then throwing something over board."

Brussels, ministery of defence, 15 minutes later:
"Mister Bastin, I have good news, bad news and very bad news", " Spit it out, luitenant!", "What first?", "The most important thing first", "Ok, around 5 and an half hours ago the task force for operation 'Red Snow' got ambushed...", "Dear god, any survivors?", "Both ships survived, but next to high casualties on the Zinnia, we also lost an icon, Sergeant first class Jozef Jansens got killed whilst making sure the fleet could get away, what should we do?", "Spread the news, we will use this as a way to make our troops fight harder, they will want to revenge him!",the luitenant then bowed,"Will be done, sir."
And after the luitenant left, Charles Bastin mumbled "Goddam Krauts, we'll have our time to shine when the backup is there."

hope you enjoyed this chapter,
I'll have to excuse myself now, for I've got the exams coming up, so new updates won't be till +/- the 23th of june 2011,

Thank you, I didn't expect such a fast response. So you tried to attack Norway with a single division, or you just mentioned only one?
You write in a very suggestive way, I like it. Yet Graff Spee intentionally trying to ram enemy ship, or soldier climbing moving enemy ship on the open sea, those things seem to me just impossible.
Good Luck with your exams, and then with an attack on Scandinavia. Stopping Germans was remarkable achievement, successfully attacking them would be outstanding.

Ok, so to answer the questions and remarks (yes, because exams are coming, doesn't mean I can't spend time on the forums in my free time, :D):
1. The plan is to land with that 1 division and then to send in the whole Canadian army as reinforcements ( I managed to take military control over Canada, but can only land with 1 division)
2. Indeed, the Graf Spee ramming an ancient transport ship, seems a bit illogical, but getting in close so he'd hit targets without a chance to miss, doesn't, right? Or am I a that big idiot, xD? And about the soldier climbing up, it is possible... if the anchor hangs right and stuff (though I must admit, he'd probaly would have frozen before he reached even the ship if it was in the winter).
3. thanks for the compliments and the wishes, always fun to read, that someone likes your writing style :D

giving a quick status update, 2 exams left, august is standby to be brought online and that's about it, see you on wednesday or thursday (depends on what day I think about it) and have fun!
