I ´ve been thinking of a South Africa mod, with bookmarks at Mfecane, Great Trek, First Boer War, Second Boer War, 1918, 1945 and 1991.

As of now, I have created a culture map, based on 2001 census (results for seats of municipalities) and magisterial districts
Culture SA.png

Following cultures on the map:
NGUNI:
  • Zulu
  • Xhosa
  • Swazi
  • Venda
  • Tonga
SOTHO-TSWANA:
  • Sotho
  • Tswana
  • Pedi
WHITE
  • Afrikaner
  • Boer
  • English
COLOURED
  • Griqua
  • Indian

What do you think?

Interesting idea. I believe HoI4 would be a better game for this, given it covers those historical time periods (some of them). Or Victoria 2.
I think he chose CK2 on purpose to better represent tribal kingdoms and monarchies of South Africa :)

P.S.: Are you going to make Britain offmap power or do you have different idea?

Governments
In portraying accurately the different societies of South Africa, there we need to mod the governmnents.

Firstly, there will be a "Republic" form of government, representing the Boer´s favoured form of government. Man,they established Republics wherever they went. The Boers were predominatly farmers and were not as numerous. Their farms can be portrayed as castles and their government can be just called feudalism under a different name. (Green)

Secondly, we have the Tribal governmnet, which is to portray both the Black and Bantu peoples´ societies. Townships are added here as well (Soweto). Tribal is not going to change in any gross way from the main game.

Thirdly, there shall be "Urban" government, shown in pink- this will depict counties where a cosmopolitan attiude prevails and are major industrial centres...
Fourthly. There ought to be a "Colonial Government", based upon interactions with Off-Map power, Great Britain.

Possibly, a fifth governmnet, called "Democracy" ....to represent the "Rinbow Nation" since CODESA

Love it <3
Any idea on what offmap Britain wants of you or can guarantee? Are you have some ideas for policies? Do you plan to make them more similar to China or much more different?

Maybe also a Boer Republic/Trekker government for the Afrikaners?

Oh nvm, didn't read the first sentence....:p

Britain will be the top liege of its colonies (mainly Cape and Natal). Succession in colonial government will be based mainly by selecting any of the vassals or courtiers of the realm.

Depending on the policy of Britain "expansive", " prosperity" or "stability"

The Expansive policy will appoint governors with a high martial score. An Expansive policy will mean that Britain is ready to expand its borders, and seek to conquer as much land for the Empire. The goal for Britain is to gain prestige

The Prosperity policy is going to focus mostly in making the colonies be a source of income. Governors favoured under this policy are going to have high stewardship traits, and the focus will be to get high wealth .

Ultimately, there will be the Stability policy. Stability policy . If Britain takes a stability policy, it will seek to have as little trouble from the Colonies as possible. It will select governors with high Diplomacy stats, and will seek to prevent unrest in the Colony.

Of course, the colonies will send a part of their income to Britain, predominantly under Prosperity policy.

De Jure Map: Empires, Kingdoms and Duchies
As for the question of de jure titles, it appears that it is not going to be as easy as thought.
upload_2020-3-25_9-52-0.png

Ultimately , I have decided for five empires within the borders of South Africa. You see, the duchies are going to be equivalents of the districts, and kingdoms equivalent to modern day provinces. What is of course imminent is that the Empires will have dynamic names.
  1. Cape (orange). The Empire of the Cape is going to have following dynamic names: Cape (English), Kaap (Afrikaner, Griqua,or Boer), Koloni (Nguni) Ehui-gaeb (in Khoisan culture) and Kapa (in Sotho-Tswana)
  2. Wild Coast (purple) The wild coast is going to have following dynamic names: Kaffraria (English), Wildekus (Afrikaner, Griqua or Boer) LeNguni (Nguni)
  3. Transvaal (light green): The Transvaal is going to have following dynamic names: Transvaal (English, Afrikaner, Boer , Griqua, Indian), Azania (Nguni, Sotho-tswana)
  4. Highveld (dark green) The Highveld will have following dynamic names : Oranje (Boer, Afrikaner, Griqua), Orange (English, Indian), Sotholand (Sotho-Tswana)
  5. Kalahari (blue): The Kalahari empire is likely to extend into Botswana as well; at first it will not be formable. Dynamic names will be Kgalagadi (Sotho-Tswana), Bechuanaland (English), Dorsland (Boer, Afrikaner, Griqua)
Below is the proposed kingdoms map:
upload_2020-3-25_10-27-13.png

The Cape empire consists of the following kingdoms:
  • Kaap-green
  • Swellendam-reddish purple (English dynamic name Eden, Griqua dynamic name Tuinroete)
  • Graaf Reinett- blue ( Griqua dynamic name Papenkuils, Nguni name Kakadu)
  • Karoo- purple (Khoisan dynamic name Aukarob)
Wild Coast consists of following kingdoms:
  • Ciskei (light brown/beige): English and Indian dynamic name Kaffraria
  • Transkei (grey-brown)
  • Natal (yellow)
  • Zululand (red) Dynamic Zulu name: KwaZulu; dynamic Boer name Zoeloeland
Transvaal consist of the following kigndoms:
  • Swaziland ( blue, dynamic Swazi name eSwatini)
  • Lydenburg (purple, dynamic Nguni name Mpumalanga, dynamic English and Indian name Eastern Transvaal)
  • Limpopo (light green, dynamic Venda name Vhembe, dynamic Pedi name Lebowa, dynamic Boer, Afrikmane rname Zoutpansberg)
  • Gauteng (dark green, dynamic Nguni and Sotho-Tswana names Gauteng, dynamic Afrikaner, Boer , Griqua name Witwatersrand, dynamic English, Indian name Goldreef)
  • Potchefstroom (grey, Sotho-Tswana, Nguni dynamic name Tlokwe)
  • Waterberg (green)
Highveld shall be composed of two kingdoms, Lesotho and Oranje (dynamic name Freistata -Sotho, iFreyistata- Xhosa , Foreyistata- Tswana and iFuleyisitata- Zulu, Orange in English and Indian)

Ultimately, Kalahari shall be composed of one kingdom, called Transorangia, with various dynamic names:
  • Groot-Stellaland (Boer)
  • Transoranje (Afrikaner)
  • Griekwaland (Griqua)
  • Kgalagadi or Bophuthatswana (Tswana)
  • Bechuanaland (English, Indian)
This is it for now. The duchies will come up later

It really is good thought out, but I think de jure empires and by extension kingdoms seem a bit too large, but thats just my opinion :)

Also next question about the British Empire
offmap ^^
Will they have some equivalents of invasions or great plagues like china has? You can do for example Great Famine (like Irish Potato Famine irl) or Pandemia (Spanish Flu) maybe event like World War (self explanatory)? :)

Religion in South Africa
upload_2020-4-1_18-50-51.png

So I´ve taken a look into the religions in South Africa, and this is the result:
Practically most of the map is Christian, but well.
The dominant religion throughout the Map is Reformed, being the religion of the Boers. I have given all Boer and Afrikaner counties this religion, even if may not have predominated it. Reformed is tied to the Dutch Reformed Church and regarding its Tenets, it should have something along the lines:
Chosen People
Unyielding
Sola Scriptura

A second religion shown in shining pink is Anglicanism, being the primary religion of the English settlers. The Anglican Church is going to have following tenets:
Ecumenism
Liberalism
Global Connections

Thirdly, there shall be a Lutheran faith, depicted in dark blue. The Lutheran faith originated in Germany and has been brought to S. A. by missionaries. Lutheranism will function similarly to Anglicanism, but will not be specifically tied to Britain. It is however going to share the "Ecumenism" and "Liberalism" tenets, and could have a Sola Scriptura tenet sharing with Reformed.

The last protestant faith present in South Africa will be Presbyterian, shown as light blue on the map, being an umbrella term for all other protestant faiths of European tradition.
Its the faith tied with the Scots, and its basically Scottish Reformed. It could have tenets like "Sola Scriptura, IUnyielding and Global Connections"

The Catholic Faith is shown in yellow and is practiced by some of the native counties. Its key tenets could be "Ecumenism, Papacy, Tradition"

All these faiths could be grouped into the Western Christian Religion; there however still quite a few coulours we haven´t mentioned.
One county in Cape Town follows Sunni representing the Cape Malays; then we have Hinduism as turquoise in Natal.

A large part of the Bantu peoples are part of the Zionist African faith, shown in light gray. This is to rperesent the various African-initaited churches.

(What could be added for earlier start dates: Animism (Khoisan Religion), and Unkulunkulun (Zulu religion, which would represent Bantu mythology))

Why would Chosen People be unique to Reformed?

Mainly due to the theological developments in the Afrikaner Calvinism and their belief that they were a chosen people... like they saw in
Why would Chosen People be unique to Reformed?

"
Afrikaner Calvinism is a cultural and religious development among Afrikaners that combined elements of seventeenth-century Calvinist doctrine with a "chosen people" ideology based in the Bible. It had origins in ideas espoused in the Old Testament of the Jews as the chosen people.[1]" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Afrikaner_Calvinism)

Proto-Christian Identity, basically?
