Anniversary Maintenance Patch - 2.0.4 (Open Beta)

ImperatorSocial.png

Avē!

First, I’d like to introduce myself, I am not one of the previous Game Directors, Johan or Peter, but I am Niels Uiterwijk, the original tech lead on the project. Today my role at paradox has changed as I am the Technical Director in studio green (studio working Stellaris). But still, from outer space I look back at earth and think of Imperator sometimes and decided to make a small maintenance patch, fixing some of the issues that modders & other people ran into.

Without further ado, the patch notes:

#######################
# Bugfixes
######################

# Notes
- This patch should be save compatible, however not all fixes might be applied to your current save.

# Stablity & Performance
- Improved overall memory consumption & performance
- Improved monthly tick performance by performing some more calculations in parallel (state modifiers)
- Portrait editor no longer crashes on open
- Updated SDL to 2.0.20 from 2.0.10
- Updated Nakama to 2.4.1 from 2.2.4

# Game Mechanic
- Upped the maximum number of tags (countries) from 2048 to 8192
- Fixed levy calculations being inversed
- Fixed a bug where when annexing a country, their abroad prisoners, that were in your prison, would also be counted as an abroad prisoners for you, even though they are local prisoners.
- default pop right is now correctly working & added proper logging of pop rights
- Fixed bug where unused modifiers were still being rewarded for specific missions (local & global cohort recruitment speed)
- Fixed bug where integrated cultures were still treated differently when they were converting to your primary religion
- Raised levies will select the best tactic for it's composition.
- Civil Wars will no longer just pick 1 character, but instead take far more disloyal characters.
- Fixed bug where released nations during a peace deal would have no proper pantheon.
- Fixed bug where you would never see battle results from battles against pirates, barbarians or rebels.
- Diplomatic range is now calculated between border territories. This should make it easier to hire mercenaries as a large empire. Default diplo range has been tweaked based on this change.
- Fixed bug where pops could be promoted above what they were allowed to.

# Other
- Updated default message settings
- Enabled script profiling (available with -debug_mode startup command, 'print_event_timings` is the console command)
- Added option to run multiple commands at the same time (ExecuteConsoleCommands & ExecuteConsoleCommandsForced)
- Achievements now only require that the game is in ironman mode and you achieve them within the timelimit (ingame years)
Note: This means that mods that are affecting the checksums, no longer will prohibit you from getting the achievements, neither does multiplayer.
- Added four new defines to balance the game (2 related to combat overruns, 2 related to civil war & dissenters)

Integrated fixes from the "Unofficial Patch" mod.
(Thanks Umgssda!)

# Bugfixes
- Fix release as client state crash in the UI

As you can see, this is a minor patch, and for now it will be released as an open beta on steam & windows only. The plan is to release this on all platforms at some point in the undetermined future. Please leave feedback (or links to bug reports that you want to see fixed) in the comments section, I am quite bad at replying, but I will read them.

Thanks to all the people that helped me with this!

Available now on the steam beta branch: 2.0.4 - open beta

I also have to stress that this is not a revival of Imperator: Rome! Do not expect new content or patches going forward.

Hello, I have installed the beta version, and it does not appear in the launcher to play with the update, and the previous version appears in the game. someone help me
Could you provide more info? Which system are you using? windows is the only one supported for the beta for now. Do you use steam?

Above all, PLEASE fix the pricing of certain events so that they are not unreasonably expensive, "seeking treatment" should cost 30, 60 max, and absolutely NOT cost 200!

Why though? I know it's painful when you're a small nation, but realistically? A good doctor is expensive...

Above all, stop telling them to fix things that can be fixed by a mod within 5 minutes... They just should fix the remaining two major issues mods cannot fix and release the beta:
1. Mod Uploads being broken
2. The beta being broken in Linux and IOS

Please fix the most annoying bugs. Also I am shocked noone else talks about them

- Senate support changes when reloading. You can plan something, then reload, and whoops your plan won't work because you now have 35% senate support instead of 60%. If you look closely, it's the party proportions that change on reload, and then they slowly drift back

- Alliance proposals disappear when reload. Got an important alliance proposal, saved game and went to sleep? Well, you won't have it tomorrow

- "Power relative to overlord" depends on army being raised AND month tick happening AND resets on reload. That means that when reloading, don't expect subject loyalty value to be real until you raise levies AND wait for month tick.

Can we please stop ignoring elephant in the room? I am shocked that for 23 pages not a single post mentions these bugs. What's the point of achievement compatibility if such base things are broken?

Also I play this game less than 1 year, and I'm sure more experienced players know these bugs much better than me. Then again, why being silent?

Probably because official support has been suspended and player mods are the ones doing fixes if they can.

I second this wholeheartedly. The fact that loading a savegame doesn't correctly restore the saved state makes significant subsystems of the game only partly playable (namely, diplomacy & senate support, possibly others; see also my Sep 15 comment). These are beta-version-level issues that ideally should've been fixed soon after release, and playing the game for over 2 years while learning to work around them has been no fun. There clearly won't be a dedicated team of developers reviving the game and implementing extensive new features, but if Paradox is devoting any labor power to a patch, fixing these bugs should be a priority.

BIG thanks both to the developers & to whoever (if anyone!) reads this & keeps in touch with them.

The point is: These are problems with the underlying engine.

There is basically no hope of these being fixed in a game that is no longer officially supported and just got another update to fix bugs that were easy to fix and very problematic, especially to the modding community which tries to keep the game alive.

Please, I BEG of you! FIX THE TRIBAL LEVIES! I'm playing as Boihaemia, and I have this stupidly massive army, 30,000, and when I got several divisions of it, 17,000 fighters, I realized too late that the 8,000 strong army led by a general with inferior martial was winning... BECAUSE THE TRIBAL LEVY SYSTEM WAS STUPID ENOUGH TO GIVE ALL OF THE BAGGAGE TRAINS TO A SINGLE ARMY!

Why oh why is it like this? Why are the baggage trains not evenly distributed amongst tribal levy armies? I already asked the Invictus devs to fix this, but it's hard-coded so they can't, it's up to you to do it; PLEASE fix this glaring flaw and fatal weakness that plagues ALL tribes in this game!

Also, please fix achievements, they are SO unreliable to get and you need to jump through hoops in order for them to activate!

The War Score system is flawed, Ports are way way WAY more valuable than they should be! A Port village with only one pop is worth five times more than a city with fifty pops and ten buildings!

EDIT: Also, please scale pop growth with how many pops are in a region, instead of how many territories you have, please.

It is true that Pop growth happens one in a each territory, the more territories the more pops growing at the same time.

This helps wide empires that end up growing more pops. But pop capacity and food also affects pop growth. For example, frigid climate territories have it more difficult to grow pops.

If POP growth was proportional to region population, all other mechanics will lose their importance and I like how the game allows for tribes to scale up population in the mid to end game.
