We have already covered the topic of Bloodlines, and more specifically historical Bloodlines, in a past Dev Diary, yet marrying into a famous family is not the only way to gain a Bloodline in Holy Fury.

There are quite a few custom Bloodlines that you can found with your own ruler by several different means. Some can be gained through special actions, such as by building a Legend as a Warrior Lodge Hero, others can be unlocked by performing impressive feats, such as being an extraordinarily dedicated Viking raider or restoring Israel.

Finally, if your ruler has very high Prestige (5000 points or higher) and is Duke-tier or above, you will have access to the new Forge Bloodline ambition.

By picking this ambition you will be provided with several paths to create your own custom Bloodline, tailoring it to whichever kind of ruler you wish to be remembered as.

Each path will lead you to unlock a different bloodline, each coming in different variants (for example pursuing the Murder path will lead you to gain one of four different Murder-related Bloodlines). Additionally, if you pursue more than a single path at the same time, you have a chance of unlocking a hybridized Bloodline, with its own unique perks.

And finally, if you take too long to complete any of the initial paths, having the ambition will trigger a special event chain that will allow you to invest resources and select from yet another pool of potential bloodlines, whose pick will be determined by the choices that you make during the event chain itself.

Some of these Bloodlines grant a static bonus, decreasing the chance of vassals joining factions against you, increasing your plot power, or unlocking special buildings for your realms, others grant more dynamic perks, such as special events to facilitate murder or decisions to meddle in your relatives’ private affairs.

This is it for now, though there's still going to be some news coming today. Do not forget to tune in for our very special stream at 17:00 CEST (https://www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive).

Is there any way not involving a matrilineal marriage? As someone who likes to pass the torch from father to son (Y chromosome and all that, haha), I really only like matrilineal marriages when numbers are so few, the dynasty's in danger. Even then, though, I set a strict rule that only first-born daughters can marry matrilineally, and the father must either be a kinsman, or lowborn with no house of his own. Weird, I know, but matrilineal marriages feel too gamey to me. Like I'm cheating...
Near as we can tell from the way bloodline inheritance has been described, matrilineal marriages are the only way to mix two agnatic bloodlines, as strange as it is. The design sounds super clunky in that matrilineal marriages apparently pass on all bloodlines from both parents and I really hope that isn't how things end up. It's super clunky at the moment and implies that you should always use matrilineal if possible.

Will Chinese generals who forge an empire in the west get a unique bloodline? Maybe something like the "Blood of the Conquer"

The check looks at any owned bloodlines that have the created_bloodline flag.
Historical bloodlines do not prevent rulers from forging a special bloodline.

Also, for the people who missed them, these were some example released on Twitter in the past few days:

How does one get the Vile Blood or the Valiant Blood bloodlines?

EDIT: Mainly reffering to the murderous child one, as children can’t plot to kill. Executions only I assume?

The murderous child one is probably one of the event-based bloodlines that you can get if you don't complete one of the ambition tasks. No idea what its requirements are.

The knightly bloodline probably comes from building castles.

Children can murder their regents by event. I'm sure that plays into it.

You also must be Duke-tier or above, NOT Content, NOT Incapable, and 6 years or older to pick the Bloodline (aside from not already having a custom Bloodline and having 5000 prestige).

Hello guys I would like to make a point...
My norse character has over 5000 prestige, like one of my previous characters and both do not have to opportunity to "Forge new bloodline" under ambitions.
I feel like this would immerse me more into the game if it was here, but when I know it should be there and it isn't it just pulls me out from the game.
I have linked up a partial screenshot of my characters stats and so on, in it you should be able to review my prestige and the ambition not being there.
And if you would like to answer "You already have a bloodline", then I would refer you back to your own screenshot, where it is clearly shown that a character *Hungarian king* already has a bloodline and does have the "Forge Bloodline" ambition.
If not stated before I would just like the game to be as good as possible and it would be great for you to clarify what is happening.

I think historical bloodlines don't stop you from forging a bloodline, but forged bloodlines do.

Basically any non-historical and non-saintly bloodline stops you from forging a new one. So if you say got one of the warrior lodge ones or a raiding bloodline, that will stop you from forging one.

What would be the best way to have a custom bloodline add a certain trait?
Modding it? You'll need an event to assign the trait, probably by checking for a flag on the bloodline. You can either tie it to an on-action if you want the trait assigned on birth or a regular MTTH character event if it's suppose to be assigned at random.
