CK2 Dev Diary #112 - Wonderful News

Good afternoon

It has been a while since we wrote one of these and I am sure you are all dying to know what we have been working on, because of course, we have been working away on the next exciting thing. Our next update will be free and will focus on a brand new feature: Wonders.

Cathedrals, Fortresses, Pyramids and many many more wonders are planned for the next update. By investing a significant amount of gold and time you will be able to build a wondrous building. These will be built in stages meaning that even if you cannot finish it in your lifetime, your descendants will be able to finish what you started.

Wonders and their stages

Now even though many Cathedrals or Great Libraries may be built, we want to ensure they are not all the same, so it will be possible to add upgrades to your wonders, everything from spikes to gargoyles, to gardens, each of these giving unique modifiers and sometimes unlocks new content.

We will also be adding some prebuilt historical wonders to the game, to represent already existing buildings, such as the Pyramids of Giza and the Colosseum of Rome. (Maybe you can even add an upgrade or two)

If you have fun ideas for any of this please let us know. I can’t promise it will get in, but it just might.

We hope you’re as excited about this as we are and please remember that all the art is work in progress.

I think wonder building can be tied to the customs technology to give those a purpose. Construction sounds like a "logical" but its already a very useful thing.

Not currently planned, it would probably work better as an upgrade but medieval healthcare is not an expert topic of mine.
Maybe something like a large medical university:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schola_Medica_Salernitana
Though there are already universities as a city building and some upgrades for the regular hospital. And it's a bit of a stretch to consider these as "wonders"

What would also be cool is to tie upgrades beyond the basics to stats. Stewardship in general. Martial for military buildings. Learning to libraries and such. Besides the complexity and the money needed some rulers simply lost interest in certain projects, so it could be generations before they were continued. That would be a way to simulate that a bit

I was thinking about the Terracotta Army. Maybe Chinese characters can create something similar. Or maybe all martial characters or lunatics can build a similar army of statues to enact their strategies/fantasies.

Fun idea: great wall of China. In China. You know, if you finally added China to the game. Not just Chinese semi-presence in the region, actual China, with Chinese provinces, and government, and maybe even Korea.

Will we be able to make a awesome castle that doubles as our dynasty seat, finally getting all those sweet upgrades Doges get from their mansions?
Yes, hate that republics are the only ones that can have a "family palace". Especially considering how few republics their ever are in a game after a century or two.

I will make publicity for my region and mention that there was a cathedral in Strasbourg since at least 5th century, and that the building has been reconstructed, modified and expanded for centuries. It was also the highest stone monument in the world between 1561 and 1874, with various other higher cathedrals falling or being destroyed over time, but Notre-Dame de Strasbourg still stood nowadays.

Please make it in the game ! :p

edit : oh, and the Mur Païen, too :

What about different architecture styles for cathedrals depending on the era? Like Romanesque or Gothic?

Also, what about a University City-type settlement? (Acting as cities like Oxford, Salamanca, Palencia, Bologne...)
Architecture styles could be a descriptive element of it, we won't be able to do different pictures for all different styles of them though.

It would be cool, if every religion would have some kind of big worship thing, including reformed pagans, afters the last DLC

What I would like, is some kind of Collosus of Rhodos, but showing the founder of my current dynasty

Wonder you say eh, Pyramids you say.. how about an Ancient Suez Canal as a wonder. We need the Canal EVEN earlier. :D

Beside this, I hope we can completly engulf the pyramids in gold, to make them smooth, like they were in ancient times.

Will we get a game rule to turn these off ?
Please

About historical wonders.
Could Lavra make it into game?
Not necessarily tied to Kiev, but as a major center of Orthodoxy/Christianity in Eastern Europe, a rather unique monastic cave complex and churches. There are many churches about which one could argue, but this complex is remarkable, unique and one of most important. Also underground tunnels.

Also I can't even describe how perfectly DD title is fitting to this DD! :)

EDIT: could we turn Stonehedge into a Christian temple? Please?

It could be neat to have some non-province wonders. For example, The Matter of Britain could be sort of a floating wonder that anyone (in a certain area, perhaps) can contribute to.
All wonders will be tied to a province, as that is how we have implemented it, I think it should probably work in 99% of scenarios though.
