CK2 Dev Diary #112 - Wonderful News

Good afternoon

It has been a while since we wrote one of these and I am sure you are all dying to know what we have been working on, because of course, we have been working away on the next exciting thing. Our next update will be free and will focus on a brand new feature: Wonders.

Cathedrals, Fortresses, Pyramids and many many more wonders are planned for the next update. By investing a significant amount of gold and time you will be able to build a wondrous building. These will be built in stages meaning that even if you cannot finish it in your lifetime, your descendants will be able to finish what you started.

Wonders and their stages

Now even though many Cathedrals or Great Libraries may be built, we want to ensure they are not all the same, so it will be possible to add upgrades to your wonders, everything from spikes to gargoyles, to gardens, each of these giving unique modifiers and sometimes unlocks new content.

Upgrade Icons

We will also be adding some prebuilt historical wonders to the game, to represent already existing buildings, such as the Pyramids of Giza and the Colosseum of Rome. (Maybe you can even add an upgrade or two)

If you have fun ideas for any of this please let us know. I can’t promise it will get in, but it just might.

We hope you’re as excited about this as we are and please remember that all the art is work in progress.

Or, or, they could instead work on religions that actually existed in CK2's time period.
add_trait lunatic

Either way, i'd like for devs to rework on holdings so that they may change as the updates get built, not only with wonders
Make Hagia Sophia turnable into a mosque for Turkish flavor!
I hope that Costantinople will have multiple wonders

I hope older grandiose buildings such as restoring the Third Temple will now be reworked with this patch. It definitely deserves a wonder spot. Also as someone mentioned: Irmisnul should be one as well, and while we are at it building great pillars/totems for pagans is a must. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zbruch_Idol - but of course much much bigger and glorious

So late to the party!

Don't forget to give Assyrians some love!
Niniveh and Babylon need your attention.

Rebuild the royal libraries in the kingdom of Niniveh, close a newly risen Babylon inside its greatest walls.
By the gods, allow a ruler of assyrian or levantine culture to restore the ziggurat of UR. Restoring the ziggurar would allow you to build new ones if you follow the right religion......

Manichean! Yes, i really hope you might throw mesopotamian paganism into the patch, but if u can't make it at least give the manicheans the stepped temples modeled after the mesopotamian temples!

Allow the rebuilding of Persepolis, creating a new capital on the ruins for a reborn Persia!

Can you either add or make this buildable in the Alps?
ABBAZIA_SACRA_DI_SAN_MICHELE.jpg
the Sacra of San Michele, is as picturesque as it is imposing, and I'd LOVE IT.

You devs are truly outdoing yourselves recently! Thank you so much for both listening and including your fans, ck2 is truly a special thing for many.

So, will the towers from business focus and the laboratories from Hermetic society finally be real buildings instead of character modifiers? It's very stupid when a Tower of Babel recreation, potentially costing more than a proper barony, disappears into thin air upon ruler death.

For new wonders, I would like to mention Eternal Plants - that is, ancient plants like the Thousand-year Rose in Hildesheim, the Panke Baobab in Zimbabwe, or the Sarv-e Abarkuh (or Zoroastrian Sarv) in Abarkuh, Yazd (Iran), or the Cedars of God in Lebanon.

What next mummy armies for Coptic or Egyptian leaders?
A mummy invasion from rebuilt pyramids for those who feel to save in Central Africa and Arabia, and want their personal world ending conquest like all other corners of the map!

By the way, there's a pic of Hermanubis.

Statue_of_the_god_Anubis.jpg

I think that's from Anzio, well into the Roman period. Serapis and Hermanubis had several temples on Alexandria and File. If the ancient Egyptian religion gets in, a good bit of syncretism wouldn't hurt.

That aside, and albeit not very related to wonders, I've always fantasized with the idea of...greening the Levant and North African coast a bit. Maybe adding some channels so the area gets a bit of fresh water and some bits of desert turn into grassland? It bothers me a bit that Alexandria is so close of the Delta, and still, the county is a barren desert :'v

Just an idea, what if the finished cathedrals would create a titular archbishopric title?
This way a player could finally simulate archbishopries in certain smaller countries without the clergy stupidly taking chunks of land
better yet, any catholic kingdom should have such titular archbishop for for coronation
good example is Bohemia (a small but strong kingdom made out of 2 duchies ingame) it had archbishop that crowned the czech kings but right now it cannot even be represented in the game without losing a third of territory

Not sure if anyone said this already, but there is an ability already in the game where if you are lunatic and your dog dies, you can build a pyramid (which seems to stay as a permanent province modifier). You mentioned that pyramids may be built, so could we include this "Dog pyramid" as a replacement to the current modifier in the game? (i.e. the actual pyramid which incases the dog is a wonder, and you can also choose to inter your insane monarch in the pyramid with the dog once they die).

Don't have enough time to read through 17 pages of comments so sorry if someone already mentioned this, but in this time period the pyramids were stripped of some of their outer limestone for building materials by conquerors... If I'm a Norse character and I capture a Christian cathedral, can I likewise tear it down for building material (AKA gold)?

Some enjoy watching wonders burn or get torn down as much as other enjoy building them....

The Third Temple should definitely be a world wonder. It would also be interesting if there was something special about building a Great Library specifically in Alexandria, given its history. Maybe a prestige bonus or something.

Bonus: with supernatural events, when it is nearly complete (during final construction stage), chance for an event which flips all your courtiers to random cultures? : P

All the counties and characters in yozr realm. Courtiers aren’t that important abd significant enough.

Maybe even complet new fantasy cultures like you get in random world.
