CK2 Dev Diary #12: The Maim event

Hello all, it’s time for another DD about ZombieInvasion <Secret DLC*>! Today we’ll take a look at what we’ve done to the Maimed trait. Well, we’ve removed it! People without <Secret DLC> can still be Maimed, of course, but the lucky owners of <Secret DLC> will instead receive more specific injuries, such as: One-handed, One-legged, One-Eyed, Disfigured, or Mangled (this represents severe trauma to the torso, mostly). As well as allowing more specific wounds and flavor, this has allowed us to remove the Health penalty from most of these traits (Mangled still has one though). Instead, when you receive a maiming-type injury you will also receive the Severely Injured trait, which has some health and stat penalties, but will be lost after some time has passed. Afterall, while losing a hand is certainly not an enjoyable process, you do eventually heal up and can be perfectly healthy besides the missing appendage. Also, if anyone is feeling creative, please suggest interesting effects for these new traits - we do of course have some penalties on them, but I worry they are a little dull, so fire away and I may shamelessly steal your ideas.

Since both One-eyed and Disfigured affect the faces of characters, we have added a lot of new portrait props to reflect this. Here is a small sample of what you might see ingame:

We have also added several events relating to life with missing body parts:

the loss of a hand is a severe blow to a famous warrior

That’s all for now, next week I am not certain which DD we will show, either I will talk about some extra Pagan features we’ve added, or Doomdark will give you some of his thoughts about CK2. It will be a surprize!

*= DLC contains no zombies

How about a rare even on martial based characters that are Brilliant Strategists that are only one handed to develop a new one handed fighting style. There is many chances to fail but if successful they gain a trait "One handed sword grandmaster" That gives a bunch of buffs to martial and a slight buff to health, also martial based family members raised by this person get a trait "One handed sword style" even if having two hands. It gives a smaller martial bonus and massive positive opinion boost to the grandmaster. Characters with the "One handed sword style" trait can self propagate by raising martial based characters. Once the grandmaster dies that is it and no one else can gain the trait however other martial based characters with only one hand now have the option to study that fighting style and gain the "one handed sword style" trait.

One thing to consider might be looking up how various religions said people should react or deal with these sorts of things, and mining that for ideas. For example, Judaism says that any amputated body part should be preserved so it can be buried with the amputee upon their death. A few events involving that sort of thing would be most welcome, especially for the less fleshed out religions.

Another thought would be to make the spouses of those with certain types of maiming more vulnerable towards seduction, especially those that involve masks. (Much easier to impersonate someone if no one expects to see your face.)

A third idea would be built off the fact that fashion often derived from others imitating the royals. So, if the king or queen wears a mask, others in the realm (the court first, but spreading to the rest of the nobility) might also start wearing masks as well.
Or perhaps the monarch could order that all are to wear masks. Either or both of these could give a bonus to defense against murder plots, and create the possibility that the wrong person might end up the victim.

If someone is responsible for the maiming (if it happened in someone's dungeon, or in battle, for example) the character could automatically gain that character as a rival. (Though, rival isn't the best word for what the mechanic involves most of the time, something like "personal enemy" would be more accurate.)

Maybe if someone who is already maimed is taken prisoner, they could try to escape using a weapon that was hidden inside their false leg or arm.

"I pull off my prosthetic arm, and beat my foe to death with it!"

One-Handed event chain: if you are male and have an older male rival who you duel, there is a chance to lose your hand and have the older male rival reveal that he is actually your father a la Star Wars.
"Your duel with the vial Emperor Vater of the Holy Roman Empire has cost you your hand and pride. You managed to get to your feet, 'Your mother never told you about your father did she?' he asked as you glare hatefully at him. 'She told me enough,' You respond, 'She told me you killed him.' Your heart sank as Vater next words pierced into your heart. 'No, I am your father.'"

1) That's not true! That's impossible!
2) So wait...does that mean I am your legal heir?
3) But...I married your daughter...so that makes her my...oh god no!

I like this, its one those what ifs

So in the end Suomenusko will be just as bland compared to the Norse who will get even more stuff.

Looking at the current situation when it comes to religions, you should fully focus your attention on defensive pagans.

It's not a competition. More Suomenusko content is more Suomenusko content regardless of what other content is added too.
