CK2 Dev Diary #12: The Maim event

Hello all, it’s time for another DD about ZombieInvasion <Secret DLC*>! Today we’ll take a look at what we’ve done to the Maimed trait. Well, we’ve removed it! People without <Secret DLC> can still be Maimed, of course, but the lucky owners of <Secret DLC> will instead receive more specific injuries, such as: One-handed, One-legged, One-Eyed, Disfigured, or Mangled (this represents severe trauma to the torso, mostly). As well as allowing more specific wounds and flavor, this has allowed us to remove the Health penalty from most of these traits (Mangled still has one though). Instead, when you receive a maiming-type injury you will also receive the Severely Injured trait, which has some health and stat penalties, but will be lost after some time has passed. Afterall, while losing a hand is certainly not an enjoyable process, you do eventually heal up and can be perfectly healthy besides the missing appendage. Also, if anyone is feeling creative, please suggest interesting effects for these new traits - we do of course have some penalties on them, but I worry they are a little dull, so fire away and I may shamelessly steal your ideas.

Since both One-eyed and Disfigured affect the faces of characters, we have added a lot of new portrait props to reflect this. Here is a small sample of what you might see ingame:

We have also added several events relating to life with missing body parts:

the loss of a hand is a severe blow to a famous warrior

That’s all for now, next week I am not certain which DD we will show, either I will talk about some extra Pagan features we’ve added, or Doomdark will give you some of his thoughts about CK2. It will be a surprize!

I find it a bit funny that several people in this thread are trying to make maimed people into some type of semi-gods, attaching positive traits to them.

In almost all cases, being maimed in any possible way should give you negative traits, not make you into some godlike one handed sword fighter.

Are characters able to be born blind? Will blind characters adapt to their state and adapt better senses?

But that's not how anime depicts it...

"dominant hand"

Is that going to be a thing, or is it just for the narrative?

EDIT:
what happens when one-handed characher shops his other hand off?

Question, how does someone with only one hand chop off their other hand?

Erm... you put a knife into your mouth and bite it like the pirates do? And... cut off your hand with it...?
I'll be honest, I have no damn clue.

I think he meant what happens if, say, a testy one handed green man went into battle and lost his other hand?

I think I already know reddit's response to this...

In romance literature, there was a recurring theme of heroic characters with scars or physical imperfections seeing them as marks of shame, even though other characters see those same scares as marks of honour or virtue to them, it means corruption and sin. The idea that inner purity is reflected in outside beautiful, so outside scarring or ugliness is a sin of internal sin.

So maybe if a maimed character in both zealous and proud
they could get events if they are maimed/scarred where they become vainglorious (what pride as in seven dead sins is) and would get events doing over the top things to true and true or reclaim their purity? Donating huge amounts to the church or poor? Fasting so much they become ill? declaring celibacy? just doing pious things to an crazy extreme ?

You know what would be great? loosing a leg and loosing clubbed foot! so maybe add in specific clubbed foot left and right so if you lose your right leg you also lose your clubbed foot!

maybe if a man is one eyed then he's bad at leading armies on sides? xD (not in the center) maybe some attraction consequences? especially in case of burned/injured face?
and if it's fresh it should be able to (sometimes) kill - like at the beggining there can be some complications but when severely injured is active and it can lead to death. one handed and one legged should have difficulties in fight but I think one legged should have bigger problems with leading horse-based armies? or more successful murder plots if the potential victim is blind/one eyed? (can't see it coming xP) maybe if such char is teaching some kid then there is a possibility that the kid gains some traits like kind or the opposite? some new nicknames?

omg, new pagan features :D:D:D

First time posting. So far super excited about what's been revealed. About being maimed should be an event where after being injured you have a chance to develop gangrene, which leads to the amputation of an effected appendage, hand, arm, foot, leg, or even lead to death.

Being tortured in example the rack could lead to something like being in chronic pain which leads to wroth, or arbitrary.

Or if you catch your steward stealing you can chop off the thief's hand.

Facial deformities, could negatively impact diplomacy, stewardship, and martial, but carry positives to intrigue, stewardship, and learning.

Possibly cut out someone's tongue?
