CK2 - Dev Diary #123 - Iron Century

Hello!

As you probably know by now we released our 3.1.1 patch yesterday. Hopefully those of you who have managed to try it are enjoying it, and those of you who haven’t will jump in this weekend. Let us know what you think about the court and tech changes, and as always if you run into any issues, please report them in the bug forum!

Now onto something new, there have been a few hints here and there about what we have been working on. However now we can officially announce that we will be releasing a new historical bookmark called: The Iron Century. The bookmark will start on the 7th of August 936, a previously unplayable date and our first in the 10th century.

In Europe Otto marches on the path to an Empire, Rival Caliphs battle for control of the Muslim world and the last remnants of the vikings stir to the north. Hundreds of other characters have their own stories to tell. A thousand possibilities await in the Iron Century.

Next week we will do something special and have a new dev diary about the 936 bookmark every day from Monday to Friday to cover the setting of the medieval world in the 10th century. Also I want to make it clear that ‘The Iron Century’ update will be completely free.

A correction from last weeks dev diary is that the correct weekday of our Crusader Kings stream is Wednesdays 16:00 CEST and not the previously mentioned Thursdays.

Thanks for reading everyone!

Reactions:
PLEASE add content to the Islamic World. It is so unbelievably boring to have titanic Empires in the game (ie. the Abbasids and Fatimids), they should play VERY differently from Feudal Europe, and actually a lot more akin to the Byzantine rump state (in that they led states with bureaucracies and standing armies). There is SO much content that can be added for the Shi'ite Fatimids, that doesn't involve bizarre events like "secretly reading the Shi'ite Qur'an" -_-

The titanic struggle between the Fatimids and Abbasids, and then the Buyids should feel exactly as so. Also, where are my slave soldiers and competing legal schools?

Also hoping for something good regarding the rise of the Ghuzz Turks and specifically the Seljuk clan.

Anyone else think that the CK2 wind down is secretly solid database and feature research for CK3?

I, for one, am more than pleased to help the team prepare for the future.

64 bit CK3 with unstable empires, the Great Schism, multi-facet diplomacy, playable baronies... Lordy Lordy DEUS VULT

Playable theocracies ?

That completely defeats the point of the game. You don't play as the spirit of the country, you play as the head of a dynasty. Theocracies completely go against that core principle for the game, so no; they will never be playable.

There will likely be Zoroastian dynasty members of the ruling dynasty.
I think they usually go with the one who hold Beijing.

Before Mongolian Yuan Dynasty, there is nothing matters with Peking/ Khanbaliq, Chang-an and Luoyang are the centres of China at that time.

The 'Son-emperor' of Later Tang or his 'Khitan papa' shall be good candidates.

Anyway, to respond to the Western calling, ruling in the northern part of China should be an obligated requirement.

Will Haakon the Good be the ruler of Norway, as a christian ruler over a people with norse religion? Could be an interesting challenge. Not sure if Trønderlag and Møre should even be under his rule, but rather allies? Hope Sigurd Ladejarl, his friend, will also be in the game!

There's also the matter of Eric Bloodaxe, who was all over the place. Failed as both King of Norway, and Northumbria.

This clearly have the potential to be my favorite start date. England is one year away from chasing the dane and rising as a true kingdom, France and the HRE are getting there to. Cordoba is around it's peak, the Kievan Rus is on the rise, the Fatimid and Buyid are right around the corner, we've got some strong Zoroastian realm... Opening my history books and looking up that time period is making me so excited!

wait... correct me if im wrong...
isnt 936 before the former earlier start date wich was from the charlmagne dlc????
EDIT:
oh no it isnt... just looked at it...
would be nice a western roman empire colapse dlc... we could then export our imperator saves to ck2 and make the border gore even better ya know...

No, it's not.

The Charlemagne startdate is 769, or 167 years before this new startdate.
