CK2 Dev Diary#24: The 2.6.2 patch

Hello and welcome back to another CK2 Development Diary. The 2.6.2 update looms rather near now, and if everything goes to plan it should be released on Thursday (hopefully we will have an open beta on Friday). I’ll start out with the bad news; due to some unforeseen problems one of the game rules I mentioned last week will not be included with this patch: The Multiplayer Assassination rule. However, we do have two other game rules for you which you may find interesting:

  1. De jure Requirement: Default/Required. On default, nothing changes, but with “Required” characters who hold titles which have de jure land will eventually lose the title if they don’t hold any of the de jure land.
  2. Horse Lords:Nomad Stability: Unstable/Stable. Now when a Khagan dies, his vassals have the possibility to break away and form their own realms -with the new Khagan getting a CB on them. Setting “Stable” keeps the old behaviour.

There was some outcry last week because Jews and Zoroastrians didn’t also get a crusader style trait, so I’ve managed to sneak both in with the Shaddai and Gond-i Shahanshah traits. While we were in a trait-adding mood, both Cannibal and Lover’s Pox were changed from character modifiers to traits (although we have left the old modifier checks in place so ongoing games aren’t broken).

The Gender Equality gamerule and laws revealed a few problems with Muslim events always assuming Muslim rulers would be male, so we’re spend a bit of time adding the appropriate checks which should result in a more flavourful Muslim experience.

As well as this, there are plenty of small fixes and additions to many other things, but I’ll let you explore the game and/or the patchnotes to discover them for yourselves.

Have you made any changed to landed_titles.txt?
No modifications.
How is it then possible to get an almost 2000 years old character in 867?
You know what was a thousand years before CK2 timeline? Roman Empire!
In the past the engine couldn't handle characters born pre 0 AD. Hence why Augustus is set to have been born in 3 AD in the title history of the ERE.

I wonder how one would acquire a platypus to kill someone with. Do you build your own little chimera? Do you find it in the bushes while you have the lunatic trait? Does a strange traveler from the lands of Hindustan bring it to you?

And are they disabled by the supernatural events game rule

They come out of the hell-mouth.

Don't they only exist in Australia? Though I guess you might meet a strange trader from Indonesia who got it from a strange trader from unknown lands.

Is that a joke or can the event seriously spawn platupi?
I'm joking.

The platypus execution method is already in the game files but it's commented out.

let's argue something more meaningful, like how do you feel about the oxford comma? (And when I say let's argue that I am being ironic we really shouldn't).
Ok, sorry for misinterpreting you... did you just put a full stop after the parentheses?

Oh shiny! No longer will Africa end up in Scandinavia!

YES.

THIS. Please. The modders in us are dying to know...

It got a bit buried earlier, but I think this issue is very important:
Have the very serious glitches that seem to involve resign-reload been fixed? There was one which caused MTTH events to fire way too often (possibly contributing to the very high illness rate) and another which removed the short and long reign length opinion modifiers, and I expect that there were others which nobody noticed. These aren't just game balance issues, if the act of loading a game itself causes errors then there's something really wrong under the hood.

There was a part of the patch notes which mentioned the following, not sure if it fixes the same bug you're talking about:

- Fixed Scaled Opinion Modifiers not being saved

Any fixes for the jump in instability in MP? It's a shame because it was so stable after Conclave (at least for the group I play with), now we can't get 2 years in-game without a desync.

Gentlemen (and ladies), the argument over the plural of platypus has raged on this forum for time immemorial. But are we not all Paradoxians here? Should we not rather unite in peace and harmony instead of bickering over such things? Therefore I propose we throw out all the competing old proposals, and adopt a new standard, one we can all agree on. Instead of relying on dead languages (for which, I assure you, I retain the utmost respect), let us take a page from English's own gloriously convoluted book. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you:

One playtpus, many platypeese!

;)

Yeah that was one part of it.

I'm sure there was settlements and kingdoms that dedicated themselves to one god whilst still worshipping the others. Kinda like how Athens is the city protected by Athena, the people didn't stop worshipping the other gods because of it. I imagine some tribal petty kings had similar believes in the pagan world.

If nothing else it helps adding something to an otherwise bland religion group to make it a little bit more interesting.

Except Norse are not really bland. However, as said before, Norse/Tengri getting the Hindu variant of the event would not break much. Few other minor things could also be added such as.

NORSE

- Patron deities - Hindu version

TENGRI

- Patron deities - Hindu version
- Sky Burial for all government types
- Great feast (Given to compensate for lack of religious feast)

ROMUVA

- Reincarnation mechanic (Part of modern revival but hardly breaks anything)

SLAVIC

- River travel (should really be tied to culture but this one would help too I guess)

SUOMENUSKO

- Recruit a Shaman = would essentially replace "Recruit court physician" for Suomenusko rulers but this decision would be available for tribal ruler as well. Shaman would always be Suomenusko (this would of course work for Tengri too but I fear they might get too much flavor then).

WEST AFRICAN

- Reincarnation mechanic (Several tribes believed in "Wise men returning")
- Great feast (Given to compensate for lack of religious feast)

All Pagans should also be able to swap to regular Gavelkind if they get max tribal authority. This would remove need for "Take concubine, convert, swap to gavelkind, go back to pagan" maneuver as elective gavelkind is utter crap.

I once had a game where the kingdom of Jerusalem was composed entirely of English territory, but the title remained.

As for permanent claims, that might make future crusades less interesting. If there's always a claimant then the title would never go to the biggest contributor to the crusade after the first one. I'd just get my crusader card punched and go home.

Dear, sweet, baby Jesus does Crusade contribution need to be reworked. Yeah, I definitely contributed 36% when 64% of the war score is from my occupations (out of 83% from occupations) and 11% is from my battles (out of 27% for battles). I'm only the main reason the Catholics won the 4th Crusade of Aquitaine after two failures in which I didn't contribute and one success I supported only so the Muslims in Hispania would stop declaring poor holy wars against me. Sure, Italy totally deserved to get it which allowed then to form a disconnected HRE that's de jure Italy, Aquitaine, and Africa.

Shaddai is a name of god in Hebrew and with an unsure meaning (Though it also literally means "My Breasts"), so that's not a very good name. There isn't really a good name for a Jewish "Crusader", but the best I can think of is "Tzadik", meaning something along the lines of rightous. Also, i'm not a zoroastrian nor do I speak persian, but according to wikipedia "Gond-i Shahanshah" literally means "army of the shahanshah" and was some elite unit, nothing religious, so if someone here speaks persian he could probably propose a better name.

DON'T CHANGE IT!!!

I want to be able to say: "I have My Breast man on it!" when I go to war!

More of a balance thing then a bug, but still happy :p

Now that its possible to have ages way below 0, hopefully they should be able to fix Tiberius and Augustus age in the Byzantine Empire title history tab.
