CK2 Dev Diary#24: The 2.6.2 patch

Hello and welcome back to another CK2 Development Diary. The 2.6.2 update looms rather near now, and if everything goes to plan it should be released on Thursday (hopefully we will have an open beta on Friday). I’ll start out with the bad news; due to some unforeseen problems one of the game rules I mentioned last week will not be included with this patch: The Multiplayer Assassination rule. However, we do have two other game rules for you which you may find interesting:

  1. De jure Requirement: Default/Required. On default, nothing changes, but with “Required” characters who hold titles which have de jure land will eventually lose the title if they don’t hold any of the de jure land.
  2. Horse Lords:Nomad Stability: Unstable/Stable. Now when a Khagan dies, his vassals have the possibility to break away and form their own realms -with the new Khagan getting a CB on them. Setting “Stable” keeps the old behaviour.

There was some outcry last week because Jews and Zoroastrians didn’t also get a crusader style trait, so I’ve managed to sneak both in with the Shaddai and Gond-i Shahanshah traits. While we were in a trait-adding mood, both Cannibal and Lover’s Pox were changed from character modifiers to traits (although we have left the old modifier checks in place so ongoing games aren’t broken).

The Gender Equality gamerule and laws revealed a few problems with Muslim events always assuming Muslim rulers would be male, so we’re spend a bit of time adding the appropriate checks which should result in a more flavourful Muslim experience.

As well as this, there are plenty of small fixes and additions to many other things, but I’ll let you explore the game and/or the patchnotes to discover them for yourselves.

I would assume it's destroyed. Preferably if this destruction would down tier him he should get a titular duchy copied of his new primary title. Your duke of anjou would become the titular duke of Barcelona.

Hm.. not sure.
both ducal titles could be assigned to somebody else. Perhaps the ex duke of anjou will be just downgraded to count level.

I asked Doomdark about it. He changed this during Reaper's in order to prevent vassals from taking other vassals from their liege. So you cannot use the De Jure claim CB for the last title of any other vassal within the same realm.
Thanks.

Shoudn't we get a chance to ask our liege for the vassal then ?
Won't that cause issues for the AI , thinking of the relative high malus in relations towards a liege when a vassal is not controled ?

Wouldn't a negative modifer of the liege towards the conquering vassal (in this case duke) and a claim of sorts on the county
for the liege make more sense ? Especially considering that a strong claim still works.

Should i start a fresh thread on the topic instead ? ;)

edit:
The questions remain relevant in my opinion, even if that issue is probably managed by the new "- vassal wars" laws.

You're right Tengri has always seemed to be absent from new patron deity mechanic talk.

To clarify though yes they have a pantheon of gods worthy enough to be included in this new patron deity mechanic. I meant that they don't need that much more added gameplay wise. Between their existing mechanics, CBs, the new ancestral worship which they got with 2.6.

It's just like the Norse who have an arguably more famous pantheon from which they could choose from. But even more so than Tengri Norse is already stacked and adding patron deity would be even more stacked, no matter how cool it would be.

The Tengri religion is extremely short on flavour though, and could really use more events in that direction. At the moment I think it might be the least flavoursome religion to play as.

I'm not sure either but that could lead to the same kind of problems which are the reason why you cannot usurp the title of someone who's at war (Though that should really only be primary title).

If we were actually speaking greek then yes but in English it is customary to inflect a word ending in -us with -i.
Thus Platypi.

Why is that? Why on earth Norse and Tengrism not going to have patron gods!? If that's not hardcoded then I'm going to add patron gods for Nordic Pantheon and the Steppe Pantheon in my mod, The Legend of Zendar!
Becuase those have plenty of other stuff.

And JUST when I finish a game to port to EU4 that happens to have a massive, menacing Mongol Empire hanging around in 1444...

Yeah, because the plural of bus is actually bi.
There are always exceptions, that one is kind of odd though since bus comes from omnibus (It can go anywhere) and the plural form of that is omnibi.
It's also why I used the word custom because there are no official rules about english

The title removal will probably checked that all the "good conditions" are in place (no ongoing wars /rebellions , no last title ...)
Anyway we will see in just a few days.

About the "vexata questio" of the pluralization, you want to destroy hundreds of posts with a simple "it is customary.." tze.. ;)

We rode on bi to many circi, saw loti and croci in the meadow, spotted many walri in the sea and though there we had sore ani they were no viri; we are genii!

How can you say there is no rules, but then correct people to use platypi?
Thus Platypi.

If bus, circus, lotus, crocus, walrus, anus, virus and genius can be exceptions, why insist on the platypus, when there is zero case for it?

Great work with the update! I really appreciate the new game rules you mention, to cite a particular example.

Hey,
Thanks for all the effort on the upcoming patch, especially for the traits for Jews and Zoroastrians (I have started a zoro game and I have just restored the priesthood so, full of enthusiasm, I am going to wait for the patch).
Now you need just to add crusader traits to Jains and Buddhists and it would be perfect (just a joke).

I wanted to suggest one quick fix. Not a fix really but it is kind of a nuisance. Since RIP when you open the council tab, no longer the screen with positions pops up but the one with the realm peace. I can say only for myself but I think that the other screen, the one where you can order your steward to collect taxes, spymaster to scheme, etc, is way, way more useful and more often needed. If you could just rethink the change.

Thanks!

I second that this should be reverted, and I've seen at least one other person wish the same.

I get why this change would make sense you survey the positions of power when selecting it, and can access the advisors.

But it's just so ingrained that the new councilor must have a new job, and it just gets me everytime.

I know it's just one click away but it going to the original council screen was better.

If you're a lowly count with a majority of non-landed Councillors you have to do this 4-5 times a year, its very irksome simply because it didn't happen in the past.

The rest of the patch looks fantastic though, a great polish to probably the best expansion and smoothest release since TOG.

Does this means we can play as mercenaries?
It likely means that we can play as vassals of mercenaries who've gained land. Theocracies also have flavor governments for this reason.

Speaking of which, "Catholic Theocracy" with the monks in brown robes work very well for some Heresiarch or a Prince-Bishop, but the Pope deserves something a bit less bland. You've got plenty of pictures of His Holiness that you can use (one in the loading screens even) and surely his government needs a special flavor name.
