Hi folks!

Tomorrow is the release day for Monks and Mystics and, of course, the 2.7 patch - exciting times! Now, we've already covered the new features pretty well, so... how about a Q&A? Unleash your questions about everything CK!

(Oh, and don't miss the livestreams later today, 16:00 CET as usual!)

Artifacts will vary in types, value and methods of getting your hands on it. Thus, you'll be able to have a blacksmith forge you a common axe, if you're tight on money, or craft an awesome sword boosting your stats and prestige if you've got the gold for it.
You'll also be able to get regal attire : crowns, scepters and various jewels to improve your prestige and make your vassals respect you more thanks to all your bling.
Of course, religious relics affecting your troops morale, health and standing within your realm will also be numerous.
Or you can just decide that your neighbour doesn't really deserve everything in his treasury and just go ahead and plunder his demesne in the hopes you'll actually get one of his items.

As of now, there are no Muslim Monastic Orders in the game.

Secret Cults function 95% like Societies, except that they don't "exist" from game start and one has to create them through decisions before you can interact with them.

"How long do cults last? Until the last member or does the cult leader have to be forced to dissolve it?"

Until the last member.
How do created a secret society? For Example the Hermitica society?

Just two quick ones, you do have work to do :)

1. Ever since I saw a dog in one of the game's artwork I thought about how neat it would be to have some minor pet mechanics in the game. Would something like that work and would you want to put it in the game?

2. Despite promoting it as a cool feature in your official stream as well, do you feel like there is too much (positive AND negative) attention given to the Lucifer cult when there are a lot of other societies to choose from and features to focus on? I see a lot monastic orders and whatnot yet people are only blabbing about one thing (or two if you count assassins).

Hey just got a couple of questions:

1. How do you guys feel about the EU4 fort system? I was hesitant at first but now I kind of like building forts in important choke points, just wondering if it is something you guys have thought about.

2. With the game rules system introduced in Reaper's do you think we'll ever see the old guardianship/educator system of pre-Conclave added as an option? I'd like to play Conclave will all the updates you have done to it since launch but I cannot stand the new educator system.

Thanks for all the work you guys do to make CK2 one of the best games ever.

So you can be secretly another religion, but can you be secretly heretic?

E.G. A Catholic character being secretly Cathar.

Or if the main religion Orthodoxy changes?

E.G. a Iconoclast being secretly Orthodox after Iconoclast becomes dominant.
or being secretly Catholic after the Schism is mended.

1. Are you happy with the way extra cultures/religions/map work? Or would you've preferred to work on a small set and make those better?
2. Do you think popular series like the game of thrones contributed to the success of the game?
3. How would you define the game in terms of what it is supposed to be, i.e. boundaries of the game experience, what it is and what it is not?

1. What is your best memory from playing CK2?
2. Which mechanic in CK2 that you had a hand in designing/implementing are you the most proud of/happy with?
3. What is a campaign/goal you want to play/achieve in CK2 that you haven't gotten around to yet?

Will you only be able to join one Society altogether, or is it rather one Open and one Secret?
I can see a big problem with the first option as it's going to give you unnecessary help in rooting out Secret Societies, because you can automatically rule out anyone who's already member of an Open. Like; this guy is a Hermetic so I know he is definitely neither a Satanist, nor part of a Secret Cult.

I don't know if the AMA is still on so one questions anyways
- In the future, do you plan to improve culture diversity within nomadic confederations (especially diversity of altaic cultures)?
Clans of different cultures within a khaganate could be a nice improvement. It would avoid the cultural genocide nomads can provoque and portray a bit better empires such as Mongolia, The Golden Horde and Kipchak-Cuman confederation (three of the biggest nomadic empires in the period). A way to convert culture for the ruler would be quite nice too, at the price of loosing the Khaganate and being downgraded to a vassal clan for instance.

Edit: another perk. This would avoid the "settle or it is game-over" when the Mongols come in and you did not blob enough. You could become their vassal (and be downgraded to a king tier khan within the Mongol Empire).

Will our glorious overlords from across the Atlantic have a special Aztec society for us to join?
No. The Aztec doesn't have any special societies.

Yes. You will be able to secretly be a heretic, and get the accompanying trait. However, as mentioned already, heresies do not have access to secret cults.

You can only be a member of a single society at any given time.

Which fictional title would be closest to the next big DLC and its features?

1. Fall of Rome
2. Rise of Islam
3. Fists and Feasts
4. The really Dark Ages
5. Secrets of Excalibur
6. Nymphs and Nomads
7. The Art of Espionage

Can we expect balance changes about these secret societies?

I've watched some people playing It and there are many OP things regarding abducting even when out off diplomatic range with almost everytime successfully abducting people. It just makes plotting or spy on very useless. Maybe new Law regarding, tolerating secret societies? Also, you can rank up or achieve lots of things in very, very short time.

All Societies exist at all times during the game, the Secret Cults being the only exception. In order to create them, you'll have to falsely confess to another faith which will allow you to retain your secret faith at the same time. Then, a decision will be available under certain conditions. But let's not spoil the details !

1. What is your best memory from playing CK2?

Abducting @Servancour 's only son & heir and sacrificing him to Satan before another QA gave him rabbies. Good times.

Is the UI going to get better scaling for bigger resolutions ?

We are constantly thinking about ways to improve the UI. M&M should already bring some improvements to the Intrigue, Decision and Child Focus screens. Although not proper scaling, it's been improved a bit (a lot, if you ask me).

Balance indeed constantly needs fine tuning, and we'll keep looking at it 24/7.
Abduction plots do have their limitations, though, and you won't be able to abduct just anyone (duke+ and their families are immune, if I remember correctly).
Laws about Society tolerance are a fun idea, we may look into it for the future.
Your progress in the societies is like a lot of things in CK2 : it depends on how lucky you can get... and if you're smart enough to bypass luck. If you play dirty and use your powers on other members in your society, you may very well become the Grand Master quick enough, but you'll need to somewhat plan ahead.
