CK3 Dev Diary #91: Update 1.5.1.1

Howdy all!

Surprise! Update 1.5.1.1 is ready ahead of time and ready for you all to download and start enjoying immediately. This came ahead of schedule and we just couldn't wait for everyone to see it.

The biggest thing we would like to add at this time is a huge and hearty thank you for your patience and understanding while we were working to gather all the feedback and suggestions that were provided by the Community. Your reports helped identify the areas that we needed to address and give our attention to for this Update. Most of the reported issues from this Update were things reported by the Community, which is super helpful for us and the Dev Team in tracking your wants and needs as a Community

So, without much further ado, here is the Change Log for Update 1.5.1.1

###################
# Game Balance
###################
- Vassals can no longer join factions if they have a Truce with their liege

###################
# Localization
###################
- Fixed missing text and tooltips for Cultural Traditions and Cultural Aesthetics in Spanish
- Fixed county title macros in Korean
- Fixed missing translations for the south Asian event pool
- Fixed inspired person text not being translated in Korean

###################
# User Modding
###################
- Fixed a crash in the map editor
- Tree mask assets should now be visible again in the map editor

###################
# Other fixes
###################
- Fix law tooltips in tooltips not showing up correctly
- Fixed an issue that caused the Coat of Arms designer to repeat the same patterns if players were scrolling up and down the list
- Fixed an issue that caused the game to sometimes incorrectly display your custom Coat of Arms for other dynasties
- Fixed a rare crash that occurred when the AI was forming a new hybrid culture
- Fix text offset for icons in law tooltip
- Fixed Aslaug, daughter of Ivar the Boneless, being married instead of betrothed at age 1
- Fixed CTD happening on loading a save after rejecting a culture conversion request.
- Holy Orders can no longer raise themselves in wars without a hostile faith participant, even if they are somehow allied in the war
- Renaming event description now targets other characters properly
- Fixed Ivars sons being older than himself in the bookmark screen
- Fixed missing key for culture conversion interaction
- Added correct naming of new eye socket types in the Customize Appearance menu
- Fixed the Train Commanders task not consistently improving Knights/Commanders and also not boosting the strength of new Men-at-Arms types
- Map pin portrait no longer freezes animation of all the other portraits of the same character

- Trade ports should now be clearer on why they cannot be built when you lack the right cultural tradition or innovation
- Turkish Eagle achievement should now fire again for new saves
- Adjusted triggers and localisation for 'Establish the Theravada Faith' decision and event chain
- Fixed some unnatural looking shadows in certain court room setups

I tested the Train Royal Guards side effects - still not working.

Does this require a new game?

EDIT: When I made a thread to report Train Royal Guard side effects not working, my thread was labeled a "duplicate" and I was redirected to the "Train Commanders is broken" thread; which is a separate issue, and a few posters on the big fix forum agreed that it was a separate issue. Eventually a CM/mod agreed (or at least implied) that it indeed was a separate issue, but never did anything about it being a separate issue.

So we have a new feature of Royal Court still being broken 6 weeks after launch - which hotfixes are still skipping over like the issue doesn't exist.
To be fair, I’ve been waiting for them to fix the realm capital not going to player heir for about a year.

I appreciate that they’re patching more after the royal court hiatus but it’s baffling how they prioritize which bugs to fix. Fingers crossed they’ll address it next patch.

Will the mechanics of populist revolts against your liege ever be revisited?
This is one of the things I'm waiting for before I pick up the game again. Even a brute force solution like the AI never accepts demands from peasant factions would be preferable. Another is the Deposing of allies through holding your court which is a pain in the ass when you work so hard to get dynasty members on their thrones and then can't hold court at risk of causing them to be usurped by an arbitrary event.

Wait, what? It's still not working? This is the second time they claim to have fixed it...
this is the beauty of ck3 patches. they dont fix half the things they claim to fix and break more things than they do actually fix, and also ruin all the mods that are currently crucial for bringing the game up to a playable standard. but, i mean, we all keep playing the stupid thing so whos the real idiot here honestly

(tbf this is hardly an issue with ck3 alone, this is the song and dance thats come to be expected with any software development, im just ignoring all that for the sake of the bit)

Just to confirm, is this the same bug where if you hover your camera over a character's location while you're looking at their 3D character model, the character model would freeze?

Will this update broke my game which was created in 1.5.1? because I can see the notification in the launcher.
No, this is only a minor update. The notification is always there regardless of the actual risks.

Yep. As a DBD player I've seen it all. Year old bugs resurface, changing something extremely small breaking something completely unrelated, etc. (Example: one survivor cosmetic in particular actually negated one of the killer's powers if equipped. How does that even happen!?)

Bugfixing sometimes turns into wack-a-mole. DBD is a good example of why "doing things right" from the beginning is so important. Spaghetti Code in the game foundations has hit critical mass and it's unlikely they'll revamp the old code, which means each update always adds new bugs to look forward to.

Honestly no idea how they manage to break things like this, that have always worked fine before.

They also got rid of colored skulls for death types.
Apparently they tried using a different texture for the skulls for... reasons. But clearly they never tested it, and didn't notice the color swap doesn't happen.
The original code is still in there, so they can just swap it back. Hopefully that won't take too long... yeah ok, that doesn't mean anything.

Apparently I can't send you a PM for whatever reason, but I just wanted to say thank you for your comments and bug fixes/efforts to help others. Keep up the good work.

I honestly don't understand why they have seemingly decided not to test things any more. I mean, they didn't test the marshal events when they changed the system, then they supposedly fixed it but it still didn't work. I haven't tried it after it was supposedly fixed the second time, but I read someone posting that it still didn't work.

This kind of stuff boggles my mind. Back when I was a wizard (coder) on an LPMUD during the heyday of the MUDs, my teenage self wouldn't even put a simple standard-issue monster into the game without testing it to make sure everything was working fine. And I wasn't paid, and my creations might have been seen by a few hundred people at the most (most of my creations were probably seen by even fewer). How the heck can a teenage kid coding simple stuff in his spare time have better quality control than a commercial gaming company???

Because you're doing one thing without worrying about the interactions between the one thing you're fixing and the whole rest of the game.
And it was on a simpler game that's doing less at any one time.

Plus you can take as much time as you feel like it needs, rather than needing to implement 50 things in a day - and you're not handing testing off to a testing department who then have to test a couple of hundred things in a day, and may not be practically able to test all of them in every combination in the available time.
